A crimson algae has propagated wildly across this entire planet, coating its rocky hills with a constant red that masks the spilt blood of the heroes who defend it from tyranny.
~ Official Description

Ubanea is one of the five planets that reside within the Severin Sector. Although only a steppingstone on the way to the former Automaton production world of Tibit, Ubanea would forever leave a lasting mark on the Helldiver Corps following the disaster that was the Ubanea Gambit.

Topography[ | ]

Ubanea's topography is similar to that of Crimsica.

It consists of large, open stretches of rocky hills, which are intersected by mountain ranges. It is devoid of trees and large flora, instead being largely covered by a crimson red algae. The surface is covered in a mostly persistent greenish-gray fog of medium-thickness, which may reduce visibility somewhat. It often experiences bursts of short rain showers.

Ubanea's geography is very mountainous, with mostly rocky terrain. Large hilltops covered in sharp boulders are found en masse. Ubanea has oceans, though large cliffs often surround the shore, with occasional gravelly beaches.

Ubanea Gambit - 30 March 2184[ | ]

During the second phase of Operation Swift disassembly, Draupnir, a key planet supplying the assault on Ubanea was hit by a surprise Automaton assault. With the initial defense of the planet failing, the Helldivers were faced with a choice of either dedicating adequate troops to hold Draupnir from a direct Automaton assault or attempting to finish the liberation of Ubanea to serve as a new planetary base of operations whilst Draupnir was retaken. In the end, the Helldiver Corps opted for the latter choice.

However, the initial hours of indecision resulted in insufficient concentration of troops to achieve either objective. Draupnir initially held a reserve force representing just under 20% of all active Helldivers, which created a solid foothold, but was insufficient to gain an advantage over the Automaton assault.

As the event continued, they came close to achieving their goal, however not enough Helldivers could be swayed from other fronts to gain the numbers needed to actually turn the tide. As the hours grew shorter, eventually, they abandoned Draupnir's defense in favor of attempting to burn down Ubanea. But by this point it was too little, too late, resulting in the worst possible outcome for our forces. As Draupnir fell, Ubanea stood at 95(.54)% liberated and would have required another few hours to be fully secure had the Helldivers supply lines to Draupnir not been cut. In the end, the Helldivers were forced to retreat back to Super Earth space in defeat.

Had our forces decided earlier what to do, or alternatively, managed to sway more of the roughly 35% of Helldivers active on the Terminid front, then today would have been cause for celebration. But victories need to be earned in order to be meaningful, and victory has not been earned this day. The Helldivers task now is to retake Draupnir to enable FTL lines to Ubanea to be re-established, before the Automatons can shore up defenses and replace their losses. This setback would prove to be significant and may compromise Operation Swift Disassembly if Draupnir and Ubanea are not retaken quickly.

Another significant obstacle in our operations has been the ongoing support of expeditionary forces on Malevelon Creek. Long standing as a bastion of human endurance and a symbol of our resistance against the Automatons, Malevelon Creek remained locked in a stalemate with an average 25% of our forces committed to its defense and eventual liberation, though success on Draupnir, Ubanea, and eventually Tibit seems unlikely with such a large contingent diverted elsewhere...

Trivia[ | ]

  • Ubanea was the farthest point into Super Earth space that Automaton forces have ever reached in the Second Galactic War, but was surpassed by Mantes on February 15th.
