Shamelessly copied from Super Earth tank designs, the Automaton Tank is clearly inferior in such a multitude of aspects that it would be impractical to list them here. Variants: Heavy Cannon, Quad HMG.
~ Helldivers 2 PlayStation Store Page

Annihilator Tank - A large, heavily armored main battle tank. It uses a powerful anti-armor laser cannon as its main gun, capable of vaporizing just about anything in its path with a direct hit. For close defense against infantry, it has two machine guns mounted on the hull and the turret, co-axial with the main gun.

Their fierce armor makes up for their slow movement speed, and they can be recognized by their dark, blue-gray coloring as well as the Automaton flag on their side.

Shredder Tank - Swaps out the Annihilator's heavy cannon for a quad-barreled machine gun battery, most likely used to shoot down aircraft. However, unlike those found in Anti-Air Emplacements, these guns can be leveled at ground targets, making them very deadly against infantry, thanks to their rapid rate of fire and their turret's fast traverse speed.

It lacks a hull-mounted machine gun, making it entirely reliant of its main gun, which is not as heavily armored as its larger counterpart.

Barrager Tank - A mobile artillery piece that uses a Multiple Launch Rocket System, mounted on a tank chassis. It is designed to bombard enemies from a distance with a rocket barrage that are effective against both infantry and vehicles.

Baragger Tanks are also dangerous at close range as they are able to use their rocket launcher against a Helldiver who strays closer to them.

Tactics[]

  • Tanks have "anti-tank"-level armor in front and sides of their chassis, and are immune to almost everything, except for dedicated anti-vehicle weaponry in a straight-up fight. Both the Annihilator and Shredder have "anti-tank"-level armor to the front of their turret, but only the Annihilator has AT-level side turret armor.
    • Their tracks, rear chassis armor, and rear turret vents, however, are only medium armored. Destroying the tracks will also force the tank to be stationary, leaving them easy pickings for anti-tank tactics.
    • Barring two, all of the anti-tank launchers can destroy a tank with a direct hit to the turret at any direction. Front and side shots to the chassis with anything besides the GR-8 Recoilless Rifle or FAF-14 Spear may require a second shot to finish it off.
    • The StA-X3 W.A.S.P. Launcher ranges between 8-12 shots, as it depends on where the rockets will hit from.
    • A single thermite grenade stuck to the body or turret is enough to destroy a tank.
    • A single direct hit from the GP-31 Ultimatum is enough to destroy a Tank.
    • The RS-422 Railgun would take around 4-5 unsafe mode shots to destroy a Tank, or two when attacking its rear vent.
  • All explosive-based stratagems geared towards destroying vehicles, are effective against all types of tanks. The Orbital Precision Strike and Eagle 500kg Bomb are best for their precision and rapid reload.
  • The Shredder tank's turret side armor is thin enough to be penetrated by all medium-pen weapons. Two impact grenades to the top of its turret is also enough to destroy it.
    • It is also possible to do the same to Annihilator tanks, however, this requires one make sure the grenades land to the rear.
    • Barrager Tanks are immune to this tactic, as they lack a rear-mounted weakpoint.
  • The Barrager Tank's missile launcher is only lightly armored, and can be damaged by any type of weapon. This means anti-tank launchers will only take a single hit to destroy them when targeting their main cannon.
  • All tanks have a very volatile engine. Upon destruction, they will violently explode, damaging anyone unlucky enough to be near the tank upon its death, along with sending them airborne. Distance is heavily encouraged.
  • Destroyed (and active) tanks can be used as physical cover.
  • You can jump directly on top of the tank's turret, making it impossible for it to shoot you. However, this makes you vulnerable to other nearby enemies.
  • The grenade launcher can be used to easily dispatch of Annihilator and Shredder tanks , but requires the shooter to arch the shot to either hit the rear plating, or the vent weakpoint.
  • If a tank survive a hellpod containing a sentry on it, the sentry will deploy and attack normally, but cannot be reached by melee units. While unconventional, this is a humorous yet effective way to take care of patrols that may be surrounding a tank.

Notable bugs[]

  • A destroyed Tank's tread may sometimes still deal rapid damage on a player upon coming to contact with it. Climbing over its front chassis is heavily discouraged as a result.

Notes[]

  • The Annihilator Tank resembles a downsized Baneblade super-heavy tank from Warhammer 40,000 or the Predator tank from the Command & Conquer series.
  • The Barrager Tank has two firing modes: one that acts like a Mortar Emplacement, and another that acts like a Rocket Sentry
    • The Shredder somewhat resembles a Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind or a Russian ZSU-23-4 Shilka.
    • Its turret also resembles that of the British Challenger 2 main battle tank.
    • Its weak point behind the turret also resembles the tank radiators in Valkyria Chronicles.
    • The new Barrager tank appears to resemble the Russian TOS-1 Multiple Rocket Launcher.
  • The design of the Annihilator Tank is based on the real-life M1A1 Abrams.
  • The Tank is likely based on the Infantry Fighting Vehicle from the first game, which similarly appeared as a heavily armored vehicle with a deadly cannon.
  • Early development assets of the Automaton tank have a more old-fashioned, 'dieselpunk' aesthetic, reminiscent of WWII era German tanks, as well as the Soviet Union's Rhino Heavy Tank from Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge.
