Super Earth Bomber

The Super Earth Bomber in its full glory.

Aside from the common Eagle fighters and Pelican dropships, the Super Earth Armed Forces also make use of a long-range bomber aircraft that is approximately double the size of the aforementioned aircraft. The primary role of the BT-1317 Bomber is to presumably drop bombs, launch torpedoes and deploy air-launched cruise missiles.

While the capabilities and official designation for this aircraft are largely unavailable, internally this bomber has been referred to as the BT-1317 due to the the designation seen on the concept art pictured on the right. Helldivers will occasionally come across the (rare) wreckage of the bomber crashed sparsely across enemy-controlled planets.

Some bombers have been retrofitted as recon aircraft, as their wreckage plays a central role in the Retrieve Recon Craft Intel mission. However, given how often the S.E.A.F. reconnaissance planes are shot down over enemy territory, it is evidently not a mission that the very large and difficult to maneuver bombers excel at.

Trivia[]

  • Wreckage for the Super Earth Bomber can be discovered by players, but official art for the bomber was not available until the creative director and former CEO of Arrowhead, Pilestedt, showcased it on Twitter in response to a request for such an aircraft in game.
  • The design of the bomber appears to be a mashup of the WWII B-17 Flying fortress, its successor the B-52 Stratofortress, and also the Longsword Fighter from the Halo series.
  • Given the size of the Super Earth Bomber compared to the hangars of the Super Destroyer, the aircraft is likely either stationed in a base on the planet that it operates on or possibly launches from a larger ship in orbit, like the Liberty-Class Cruiser or some sort of Super Carrier.
  • There are 4 seats in the rear much like Pelican-1.
  • There are nine tally marks behind the cockpit, possibly indicating the craft has conducted nine successful bombing runs or missions.
