"It is the duty of every man, woman and child to protect our home, our future and our way of life!"
The Super Earth Armed Forces (S.E.A.F.) are the military of the
Federation of Super Earth, managed and commanded by the
Ministry of Defense. The
S.E.A.F. is split into different branches: the Super Earth Army, the Super Earth Navy, and of course the elite
Helldivers, who additionally receive Major Orders from Super Earth High Command.

The Ministry of Defense largely directs the
S.E.A.F.
Super Earth is a highly militaristic society. All children are traditionally gifted an R-2124 Constitution bolt-action rifle - a primarily ceremonial rifle of the
S.E.A.F. (which replaced the older M2016 Constitution used in the same manner during the First Galactic War) - on their 16th birthday to encourage eventual military service, and
S.E.A.F. personnel are revered in civil society.
While all citizens can legally work at 7 years of age,[1] military service is reserved for those who are 18 or older, as highlighted on S.E.A.F. recruitment ads.[2] Raw recruits typically go through a rigorous
S.E.A.F. basic training course, before being assigned to a branch or being given more specialized training, such as the 8-week Superior Packing Methodology (SPM) training course for Super Destroyer crews, or the "real deal"
Helldiver training.
S.E.A.F. Branches[]
Note: The following is based on both in-game sources and also some amount of speculation. The Helldivers also have their own page. For more on the Ministry which the
S.E.A.F. is subordinate to, see the
Ministry of Defense.

Helldiver too!"
While the Helldivers are the scalpel of the military might of
Super Earth, the regular Army Corps are its hammer, responsible for the bulk of the fighting in the Galactic War, as well as taking over more permanent security duties over liberated planets. While the exact strength of the Army Corps is highly classified, the Army is likely the largest of the branches in sheer numbers, as they can hold multiple fronts on dozens of planets -- something that likely requires vast reserves of manpower numbering in the tens of billions.

S.E.A.F. Army soldier wearing the standard issue BDU (Battle Dress Uniform)
Before the official declaration of the Second Galactic War, the bulk of the Army was on a peacetime standing, spread across the frontiers of the Federation maintaining security over various military installations, forward command bases, outposts, communication arrays and training facilities. This peacekeeper force has since been reinforced with billions of "voluntary conscripts" following the official declaration of the Galactic War on Tyranny on May 15th, 2184, with new recruits rushed through basic training to reinforce frontlines and help establish critical infrastructure to train more conscripted volunteers.

The Army possesses overwhelming firepower in the form of heavy artillery, ICBM, and SAM sites, as well as armored vehicles such as exosuits and tanks (the latter of which the Automatons have made inferior copies). Additionally, the Army is the branch from which the
Helldivers are drafted, at least during the First Galactic War. Their bravery in the face of overwhelming odds, and their Democratic values, cannot be understated.

S.E.A.F. Army soldiers
Even when losing ground or being forced to withdraw from a planet, the S.E.A.F. Army will presumably simply lick its wounds and return in greater force with support from the Navy and the
Helldivers.
Because individual casualties tend to be very high, S.E.A.F. Army soldiers deployed to exceptionally hazardous postings will be granted an increase in Citizenship Class for themselves and their immediate families upon mission completion or death.
Note: For more information on S.E.A.F. Army soldiers, see the SEAF Soldier article.
Engineering Corps[]

The Super Earth Army possesses its own Engineering Corps, responsible for building various S.E.A.F. installations, such as the TCS Towers and the orbital defenses of the Menkent Line. The Engineering Corps also provides technical support and repairs (as seen when the communication array on Vernen Wells was knocked out). These military engineering units will sometimes be supplemented with civilian contractors when necessary.
Another notable branch of the Army (likely operating under the S.E.A.F. Engineering Corps) is the Excavation Corps founded by SGM Janet Jones, who famously said that "The ground is just another obstacle that hasn't yet been cleared." The Excavation Corps is an engineering unit that is presumably responsible for systematic drilling and blasting for surface excavations deemed strategically valuable.
The Excavation Corps founder's motto has become iconic to all those who have worked alongside the branch. A specialized set of gear was also developed for them, known as the CE-27 Ground Breaker armor, which allows for the carrying of additional explosives and provides a reduction to felt recoil when firing applicable weapons.
Viper Commandos[]

The Viper Commandos are a storied S.E.A.F. special operations unit whose real exploits are portrayed in the classic comic book series Tales of the Viper Commandos. For example, Jackle 6, a veteran of the Viper Commandos in the First Galactic War (whose uniform became the basis for the PH-9 Predator light armor) held off an entire
Terminid brood on Nublaria, a planet in the Celeste Sector, with nothing but a machine gun, pocket knife, and Orbital Laser Strikes.
361st Freedom's Flame[]

The 361st "Freedom's Flame" Unit was a S.E.A.F. special operations unit whose final mission is documented in the graphic novel The Breach, in which the entire unit was deployed right into the heart of a Supervolcano located on a planet that was once besieged by a massive swarm of
Terminids. The entire unit was wiped out after they triggered an eruption in order to wipe out the bugs.

The Chemical Agents, also known as the Noxious Rangers, are the division of the S.E.A.F. tasked with defending against and using chemical and biological weapons. Unfortunately, due to a lax in proper distancing rules, an unfortunate outbreak of Carcino-Plague was caused, with many of
Super Earth's citizens being consequently infected.
“ | With this cape we honor the bio-warfare pioneers of Division Zero, conscripted from quarantine zones and hospices to spread their Carcino-Plague on the battlefield. | „ |

From tragedy would be born hope, as the bio-warfare pioneers of Division Zero would be conscripted from the quarantine zones and hospices to spread their Carcino-Plague on the battlefield. The incident was immortalized through the "Patient Zero's Remembrance" cape and the "Standard of Safe Distance", so that their sacrifice might be remembered.
Intergalactic Medical Corps[]

~ CM-14 Physician armor description |
Consisting of commissioned medical personnel who are easily recognizable by their iconic teal-green, white and red uniforms, the Intergalactic Medical Corps carries the S.E.A.F.'s best man-portable medical equipment to provide aid to squadmates in need. Due to their importance, specialized equipment has been designed for them to help distinguish and protect them on the frontlines, such as the CM-09 Bonesnapper armor, which is based on the gown of colonial surgeons who were often interrupted in the middle of surgeries by the need to perform defensive duties. Other uniforms include the CM-14 Physician armor, the CM-10 Clinician armor (featuring patented reverse-seam technology to reduce the likelihood of bodily fluids entering the armor), the CM-17 Butcher armor (most often seen in use with surgeons on the frontlines), and the CM-21 Trench Paramedic armor. Though unconfirmed, the 676th Democracy Regiment, who made their final stand on the slopes of Justice Hill, may have been a regiment of the Intergalactic Medical Corps based on their distinctive red, white, and green colors on the Blazing Samaritan cape that is paired with the CM-14 Physician armor, although the colors' shades are different.
As stated in the description of the CM-21 Trench Paramedic armor, for at the very least the Helldivers, the advent of the advanced PermaCura Stims has reduced the need for traditional medical supplies, allowing for personnel wearing the Intergalactic Medical Corps armor to carry 1.5x as many of them (at most) to best serve the injured. The
Helldivers have been provided access to sets of their armor to be worn by their medical personnel in the field for easier recognition and expanded medical capabilities. Additionally, these armors have been modified to facilitate the attachment of capes worn by the
Helldivers.
S.E.A.F. Bug Wardens[]

Concept art of a Terminid container used by the
S.E.A.F..
While the Terminids are a threat that will infest the entire galaxy if not suppressed, they are also a rare and valuable species that is potentially an unlimited source of Element-710 fuel for
Super Earth. Outright extermination of the
Terminids is counterproductive from both a logistical and moral perspective. Thus, after the defeat of the
Bugs in the First Galactic War, they were confined to farms to be bred, raised, and harvested in order to produce E-710. This farming would last all through the Great Democratisation until February 8th, 2184, when billions of
Terminids rose up and overran the Eastern sectors, marking one of the two starting events of the Second Galactic War.
With the establishment of a Terminid Research Preserve on Acamar IV, past lessons learned from the failure of the
Terminid Farms have been applied to guarantee the Preserve's security. The
Terminids will be allowed to develop naturally, but their population is monitored at all times by
S.E.A.F. Wardens and encircled by electrical fencing, above and below ground. In the event of a containment breach, nuclear bombardments are set to automatically trigger. Research teams stationed within the Preserve will be able to requisition
Terminid specimens as needed, aided by
S.E.A.F. Bug Wardens.
The role of these Wardens is to help enforce the Terminids' containment as well as to manage and protect the various specimens within the Preserve. In the future, it is hoped that the Preserve can be expanded to provide not only research specimens, but also easy-to-acquire E-710. While these endeavors may present risks, they were necessary for the construction of the
DSS and the long-term security of Managed Democracy itself.

The Super Earth Navy during the First Galactic War.
One of the largest and most sought-after branches within the Super Earth Armed Forces, the Super Earth Navy is the
Federation's aerospace service branch, responsible for maintaining and crewing its space borne warships like the Super Destroyer and Liberty-Class Cruiser, as well as aircraft such as the Pelican, Eagle, and a fleet of bombers.

S.E.A.F. Navy Ship Master aboard a Super Destroyer.
The Navy's primary mission is to defend and spread Freedom and Prosperity by providing orbital support to S.E.A.F. forces planetside. They are also responsible for maintaining orbital dominance and keeping the Faster-Than-Light Lanes open, as well as transporting military personnel and equipment wherever they are needed. Many in the outer colonies seek to join the Navy as their way to do their part for
Super Earth and see the stars, filling the ranks of technicians, navigators, officers, communication operators and weapon specialists.
Unsurprisingly, the Super Earth Navy is the current dominant spaceborne navy in the galaxy. The only other fleet that comes anywhere close to matching the Super Earth Navy is the Automaton fleet, with tens of thousands of Automaton Fleet Destroyers. The Navy's arsenal ranges from the modern Super Destroyer to the larger Liberty-Class Cruisers, to the many orbital space stations and defense platforms that protect many a world.

The Super Earth Navy during the Second Galactic War.
Though the figures of its exact size are unclear, the Super Earth Navy is likely the galaxy's most powerful navy, as well as the most numerous, with numbers clocking in at over twelve million active vessels (based on Helldiver numbers, as each active diver gets a Super Destroyer). While the primary warship of the Super Earth Navy is the Super Destroyer, the Navy also possesses heavier warships in the form of the Liberty-Class Cruiser, which presumably surpasses the Destroyer in both size and armament.
The pride of the Navy, however, is the Democracy Space Station, a colossal battle station that is equal parts battleship, carrier and logistical support vessel. The
DSS is the most powerful strategic tool in the Navy's current arsenal.
After realizing that the Illuminate were sending accumulated Dark Energy directly into the Meridia Singularity itself, High Command ordered the establishment of a conventional military blockade surrounding the Meridian Singularity. This massive blockade fleet required billions of gallons of E-710 and tons of scrap metal to be properly fielded. However, scrap metal deficiencies hindered the Navy's expansion, resulting in large holes in the blockade's coverage. Only a partial blockade was established, consisting of thousands of
S.E.A.F. warships, transports, and refitted merchant vessels.
It should be noted that the above Major Order also reveals that Illuminate interstellar ships remain undetectable by the Super Earth Navy. Furthermore, the fact that the blockade includes transports and refitted merchant vessels alongside dedicated warships indicates that most likely the Navy either had to cut corners due to the shortage of materials when forming the blockade fleet, or that a year of attrition has cut down the Navy's number of available vessels to the point where they have to start pressing non-combat vessels into auxiliary and perhaps even combat service.
Democracy Class Interplanetary Battle Stations[]

Democracy Space Station blueprints

~ Official Description |
While the details of the project remain highly classified, during the First Galactic War, an advanced weapons lab on the planet X-45 was working on the development of a powerful interplanetary battle station. However, the project was abandoned along with the laboratory (and the planet) due to high levels of radiation on X-45 -- possibly following the responsible use of planet-wide nuclear weapons bombardment.
After months of intense research, on September 25th, 2184, (almost) final plans for the Democracy Space Station were approved and construction of was finally ready to begin. The
DSS has proven to be a powerful strategic tool for reshaping the Galactic Map — democratically directed and invested in by the
Helldivers themselves. Details on the exact layout and capabilities of the
DSS are naturally highly classified. However, the construction site of the space station itself utterly dwarfs the Super Destroyers of the Super Earth Navy.
Construction officially completed on November 13th, 2184, with the station completing its trials and first test fire against a small moon later that day, before being immediately commissioned into the Super Earth Navy. However, rather than being under regular Navy control, the decision was made by High Command to have the station itself be controlled collectively by the Helldiver Corps, via the Galactic Map.
The DSS' advantages make up for the billions of Super Credits it requires to operate. The station protected by hardened (but lightweight) alloy plating and armed with a suite of 77 PRESIDENTIAL-Class Cannons and, of course, its Zero G Anti-Ship Missile System. The station also acts as a massive super-carrier, housing a massive fleet of Eagle fighters in an equally massive three-tiered Convocation Bay. No other ship in the Super Earth Navy can compete, although for the time being only one such battle station exists in the galaxy; thus, its weaponry of mass liberation must be used sparingly.
Auxiliary and Civilian Transports[]

"A question was asked if super earth sent civilians and cargo through space in non-military transports, what would that look like? Quick and very sloppy sketches!" -- Lucas Örström
Of course, not every vessel put to the stars by humanity belongs to the Super Earth Navy, nor is everyone lucky enough to crew a Super Destroyer or a Liberty-Class Cruiser, or to be one of the 1.3 million personnel aboard the Democracy Space Station. Foodstuffs to feed the hungry, materials to make implements of war and patriotic volunteers willing to throw themselves into the line of fire need to be transported around the galaxy somehow. Thus, logistical craft are as much of a vital component to any military campaign as Super Destroyers.
The Super Earth Navy, of course, maintains its own fleet of FTL-capable military transports and landers; the Democracy Space Station, for example, requires its own armada of attached logistics ships to properly supply the station and its 1.3 million crew with all the food, fuel, parts and ammunition they need to keep the station running and support planetside
S.E.A.F. operations. However, the transport of militarily non-strategic cargo, civilians, and cargo through space is still facilitated in non-military transports -- particularly during planetary evacuations and the settling of new worlds. Many transports and refitted merchant vessels would be pressed into front line service following the establishment of the Meridia blockade.
Such civilian vessels are large, unarmed, unarmoured and unprepared, making them vulnerable to attack by malicious forces seeking to destroy or capture their valuable cargo. This further reinforces the importance of the Navy's vital mission of keeping the space lanes clear of the enemies of Freedom and open for all traffic, military, commercial, or otherwise.
Helldiver Corps[]
Note: For more information on the subject, see the main Helldivers article.

~ Encyclopedia Description |
The Helldivers are one of the main, elite special operations units and independent service branches of the
Super Earth Armed Forces, forming the specialized orbital drop backbone of
Super Earth's military arm, made up of some of the finest, most battle-hardened front-line shock troopers the galaxy has ever known or will be seen. Extremely well trained and exceptionally equipped,
Helldivers are sent deep behind enemy lines through the use of the ingenious 'Hellpod', shock-absorbing pods launched directly from orbiting Super Destroyer ships.
Possible
S.E.A.F. Doctrine (Speculation)[]
|
“ | The Galactic War is a united effort. Only by working together can we ensure planets don't fall to the enemy. | „ |
~ Training Manual Tips |

The "Brasch Tactics" educational series approved by the Ministry of Defense.
Despite possessing deep manpower reserves and awesome firepower, S.E.A.F. forces are often outnumbered, outgunned or outclassed, showing that continual sacrifice and military spending are required by
Super Earth. This has resulted in Super Earth adopting a strategy of tactical advances to defensive lines away from the enemy in order to preserve its manpower and equipment.

S.E.A.F. Army soldiers saluting a
Helldiver on the battlefield.
Although the exact doctrine of S.E.A.F. forces is unclear, one possible strategy employed is a "Hammer and Scalpel" doctrine that relies on cooperation between all branches: the Super Earth Army holds the frontlines, enduring the full might of enemy forces, while the
Helldivers -- with orbital support from the Navy -- deploy deep behind enemy lines where they cripple key objectives, disrupt enemy logistics and cause general chaos. This gives the Army the chance to push forward and liberate some ground, increasing a planet's liberation progress. Once all enemy resistance has collapsed and all ground is taken, the planet will be officially liberated, with
S.E.A.F. forces then transitioning to occupation, clean-up, and reconstruction operations in the aftermath.
S.E.A.F. Infantry Standard Issue Equipment[]
“ | Notice to Colonists: A military operation is being conducted in your vicinity. There is no need for alarm. Please remain indoors until further notice. | „ |
~ ![]() |

The standard issue kit of most S.E.A.F. Army soldiers bears some resemblance to those worn by the real-world United Nations Peacekeepers. Over the top of light blue combat fatigues is worn a set of standard issue B-01 Tactical armor, which provides basic protection from both pistol and rifle caliber bullets, as well as stab and slash attacks. Protective goggles are worn for extra protection. Finally, the most important part of the standard issue kit is a pair of leather-nylon combat boots, which are an essential part of any
S.E.A.F. soldier's uniform.
S.E.A.F. ground soldiers are also provided with a tactical belt with several pouches for storing ammunition and other items, with the breastplate able to support the attachment of at least 3 more pouches.

The AR-23 Liberator is the standard assault rifle of the S.E.A.F..
The Super Earth Armed Forces possess a vast arsenal of equipment, with the standard infantrymen being armed much like freshly drafted
Helldivers with the standard issue AR-23 Liberator assault rifle and a P-2 Peacemaker pistol as a backup weapon, although some (unfortunately deceased) soldiers have been seen equipped with the LAS-5 Scythe, PLAS-1 Scorcher, and the SG-225IE Breaker Incendiary as well. Infantry squads will also sometimes contain specialists armed with heavier weapons such as the MG-43 Machine Gun, APW-1 Anti-Materiel Rifle, E/AT-17, and the RS-422 Railgun, although the most common of these support weapons seems to be the MG-43 Machine Gun, which would make sense as it is the
S.E.A.F.'s standard-issue squad automatic weapon, and there's likely at least 1 soldier equipped with it in every Super Earth Army squad.
Even before the declaration of the Second Galactic War, S.E.A.F. Army soldiers were deployed in large numbers to protect remote
S.E.A.F. facilities and colonies from enemy aggression. Unfortunately, while the
S.E.A.F. Army is no doubt formidable, casualties for individual units are extremely high. Furthermore, the
Helldivers primarily deploy behind enemy lines, and as such, the only
S.E.A.F. Army soldiers that they are likely to find are those who have already given their lives for the defense of
Super Earth. This of course changed during the invasion of Super Earth by the
Illuminate, with Helldivers and SEAF soldiers fighting side-by-side in the streets of the Mega Cities.

Super Earth High Command[]
“ | 1.1 The Enlisted shall perform the Services outlined in Appendix A in accordance with the operational directives identified by (i) Super Earth High Command (ii) the President of Super Earth (iii) the Democratic Council of Super Earth (iv) accredited employees of the Ministries of Super Earth (v) accredited representatives of the parties aforementioned in clauses 1.1.i - 1.1.v, (vi) accredited representatives of those representatives (hereby referred to as "the Authorized Command Structure"). | „ |
~ Excerpt from the Helldiver Contract of Employment |
Super Earth High Command has the highest authority within the government of the Federation. Presumably made up of the Super Earth Senate and the Super Earth House of Representatives, High Command works alongside the President and the Democratic Council to preside over the various Ministries and mega-corporations who provide the administrative and logistical backbone of the
Super Earth Armed Forces in the form of logistical, industrial, political, technological and administrative support. During times of war, High Command works closely with the
Ministry of Defense. If the Helldiver Contract of Employment is to be believed, the chain of command runs from High Command down to the President of Super Earth to the Democratic Council and then to the Ministries including the
Ministry of Defense (and presumably its various commanders of the combatant commands and the
S.E.A.F., including famous war heroes such as General Brasch).
High Command has the ultimate authority to carry out exactly what needs to be done to defend Managed Democracy from the enemies of Super Earth and her people. To this end, during these times of war, High Command distributes Major Orders to all forces within the
S.E.A.F., setting major objectives that must be achieved. The
Helldivers particularly are given the most critical orders and are demanded to accomplish these tasks, no matter the odds. Because of this, High Command provides the
Helldivers with any piece of equipment needed to get the job done, including both mass manufactured classics and experimental armaments. To add to this,
Helldivers also have maximum flexibility and freedom in their choices of equipment, which has in some cases been a double-edged sword.
Additionally, following intelligence and command failures after the Automatons' Reclamation and fall of the Menkent Line, High Command has started to more actively communicate with the
Helldivers, providing the latest frontline intelligence through the Galactic Map and dispatches.
Colonial Militias[]
“ | Memo to Colonial Overseer: In order to best serve Freedom, the security budget for your colony will be reduced by [23.7%] for the next fiscal term. | „ |
~ ![]() |
To further augment S.E.A.F. force projection, many of the brave citizens of
Super Earth's colonies are given some form of military or survival training. Every adult, child, and even pet is expected to give their life without question in protecting
Super Earth's legal holdings. To this end, the colonies of
Super Earth possess their own colonial militias, funded in part by the
Ministry of Expansion. In theory, a well-regulated planetary security force backed up by colonial militiamen would be able to wage a successful guerrilla war against enemy invaders thanks to their greater knowledge of the local terrain and motivation from the fact that the colonists would be fighting to defend their homes.
However, these militias have often proven insufficient in the current conflict, showing the barbarity and inhumanity of Super Earth's enemies. They are willing to kill voters who were equipped, within regulation, for the past one hundred years of peacetime for policing and protecting against wildlife. While well equipped with valor, the colonial militias are nowhere near as well equipped or trained as the proper
S.E.A.F. forces.
Due to limited need in peacetime, budget cuts for many colonies also pulled out what few teeth they still had, possibly contributing to the swift fall of many planets near the start of the Second Galactic War. A prime example of this is the first defense of Angel's Venture, where the spawning hordes of Terminids easily overwhelmed the planet's colonial militias in a matter of hours. Even so, individual heroism has been noted among the colonial militia, with reports from
Helldivers indicating sightings of dead citizens who managed to destroy Devastators using the SG-88 double barrel shotgun and, in some cases, even entrenching tools.
As per S.E.A.F. policy, such valiant heroes will posthumously have their citizenship level raised and thus garner the right to have their name listed in the planetary death log (subject to
Ministry of Truth regulations).
S.E.A.F. Training Facilities[]
Four S.E.A.F. Training Facilities were built after the declaration of the Second Galactic War and they gave a 1.5% liberation boost. Although two of the facilities fell to the
Automatons, the other two managed to survive until they were shut down on June 4th, taking the liberation boost with them.
- The Training Facility on Vernen Wells fell on May 21st.
- The Training Facility on Aesir Pass fell on June 5th.
- Both Training Facilities on Angel's Venture and Heeth were shut down and converted into recreational campgrounds for the Democratic Youth Scouts on June 4th.
