History[ | ]
Second Galactic War[ | ]
Operation Titanium Belt[ | ]
Shelt had been one of the many colonies of Super Earth in the Talus Sector for several decades, having been settled at some point after the end of the First Galactic War. Its colonists thrived amongst its beautiful perennial forests and its blossoming coloured shrubs. However, this prosperity was not to last for long.
After the Automatons invaded the Valdis Sector in April 2184, Gaellivare would cut all of its FTL Supply Lines, which kept the Talus Sector safe from any Automaton incursions. However, Shelt's colonial overseer, seeing his planet was seemingly far away from the frontlines at the Menkent-Lesath Line, did not care to prepare in case of future incursions.
This lack of preparation would soon prove to be a great mistake as, on September 6th, 2184, the Automaton Vanguard at Mastia would launch an assault onto the underdefended Shelt, in coordination with a bigger attack at Gaellivare. With mere moments of notice, the colonists of Shelt sent out a call for aid as they scrambled to mount a defense.
Identifying these attacks as an attempt by the robots to take over Imber's titanium deposits, Super Earth High Command ordered the Helldivers to hold the line against the Automatons and to hold onto Imber by all means necessary. As such, the Helldivers, seeing the struggling defense on Shelt as a threat to Imber, would immediately heed its call and drop en masse onto the perennial planet.
Shelt's defense would end up in success a day later. However, it came at the cost of losing Gaellivare to the Automatons, which forced the Helldivers to immediately divert towards Imber in order to defend it from the incoming attack, which consequentially also caused the loss of Vog-Sojoth. Nevertheless, Shelt would get a couple days of rest while the battle centered on Imber.
Once the Helldivers managed to successfully defend Imber, the Automatons in Mastia, now resupplied thanks to their newly captured supply line to Lesath through Gaellivare, would sent a dual assault from Mastia onto Shelt and Shallus, catching both planets unprepared.
Nevertheless, the Helldivers, in an astounding display of resilience and commitment, would manage to successfully defend Shelt and Shallus, proving once more how Freedom will always triumph over tyranny.
Operation Leap Forward[ | ]
However, Shelt would not get to avoid fate for long. On September 22nd, Imber would fall to an Automaton assault from Gaellivare. Then, on September 24th, as the Helldivers rushed to liberate Gaellivare in order to secure a construction site for the Democracy Space Station, Shelt would be attacked by the Automatons as they attempted to flank the Helldivers and take over Mastia in a gambit maneuver that, fortunately, did not occur.
Shelt fell on September 26th, as the Helldivers had to focus all of their available manpower on liberating Gaellivare. Thanks to this sacrifice, Gaellivare would be captured, forcing the Automatons to abandon their plans for Mastia, which subsequently froze the Automaton frontline, allowing for an unofficial liberation effort to begin on the contested tundra planet.
Operation Alcubierre-II[ | ]
Shelt would immediately get stuck in a bit of a bloody deadlock, as the Helldivers had to scramble between manning the bot front to keep the bots away from Gaellivare and keeping the Terminids from reaching Turing, as a new Xenoentomology Center had begun construction on said planet and Super Earth High Command had issued a major order for its protection. As such, Shelt would remain stuck in a deadlock as the Helldivers attempted to keep the fascist insects at bay.
However, in this uncertainty, the Automatons would spot an opportunity to continue their ravenous expansion. After falsely withdrawing most of their forces from Shelt, they then launched a surprise attack onto Mastia; leaving Shelt undefended, as pretty much all of its garrison jumped to attack the desertic planet. If Mastia was lost, it would have cut off the only supply line connecting Tarsh, the site of the DSS Logistical Hub, with Gaellivare.
Realizing this, the Helldivers would divert what little manpower they could towards Shelt, in an attempt to rescue the still deadlocked planet in order to cut off the attacking robots. While a great portion of Helldivers detached, most of them had to remain at Acamar IV, working towards said planet's liberation in order to form a perimeter around Turing.
The battle for Shelt was fierce and brutal, as the bots that remained in Shelt gave no quarter. Amongst the vast painted valleys of colorful shrubs and gorgeous perennial trees, the Helldivers would masterfully destroy the enemy robots, blitzing through their outposts and bombarding their fortresses with all the munitions that their super destroyers could carry, with many Helldivers willingly taking on a traitorous status and then running into Automaton lines just so that the Super Destroyer would be able to kill more bots using the special ammunition reserve that is exclusively utilized for capital punishments against deserters.
12,000 Super Destroyers were deployed on Shelt at the peak of the battle, with Gunships falling out of the sky and Super Destroyers taking heavy orbital fire, the debris of those destroyed serving to further rain hellfire onto the robotic scourge that plagued this Liberty-blessed planet.
Finally, after hours of heavy fighting, Shelt was finally liberated on the 3rd of October, 2184. Not only would it's liberation see another world that rightfully belonged to humanity return to the Federation, but also cut the supply line of an Automaton invasion on the verge of overrunning defenses on Mastia -- effectively killing two bots with one well placed bullet.
