“ | The Scout Strider is a machine operated by a machine, a walking turret guided by the limited intelligence of an Automaton Trooper. Another fruitless attempt to ape true intelligence, in this case by exercising mastery over a machine even more primitive than themselves. | „ |

Scout Striders are Automaton two-legged walkers operated by a Trooper from the back. They have medium leg and torso armor and heavy top armor, but are also completely exposed from behind, making them less reliable when facing mobile targets. The Trooper from the back is completely vulnerable, and if the walker is destroyed then the Trooper will jump out and act like a normal one.
Scout Striders support infantry by distracting Helldivers so that other
Automatons can fire. There is also an assault variant which is completely autonomous, with armor all around and rocket pods on their sides; these can be shot, causing them to explode and taking the Strider with it.
They can be divided into two types:
- Standard - Entirely exposed from the back, operated by a single trooper and equipped with cannons and medium-heavy armor.
- Reinforced - Heavier variants with more armor, a dual cannon and a limited amount of rockets (4) two on each side which they can fire at a Helldiver, causing massive damage.
Tactics[]
- The Scout Striders are protected by a trapezoidal gun shield and operate powerful dual laser cannons inside. They're also quite fast and will shoot at a Helldiver continuously. In order to defeat it, Helldivers must either get behind it and destroy the trooper piloting it, or find any weapon that can pierce their frontal armor, like the AR-23P Liberator Penetrator or Impact grenades. It is also possible to blow the gun shield off of them, leaving them vulnerable to all kinds off attacks.
- However, be warned: Taking too long to get behind a Scout Strider will give it an opportunity to melee you, attempting to stomp you, this will crush you instantly if it lands.
- Their legs are also vulnerable. Target their legs to immobilize it, then focus on the exposed pilot to finish them off. It's also possible to use medium armor penetrating weapons such as the Anti-Materiel Rifle or the Machine Gun to destroy its legs and topple the Strider, however this will not kill the trooper operating it, and they will start firing at you with their own weapon until completely destroyed.
- Getting on elevated ground gives you a huge advantage over them. Even a slight height advantage will frequently allow you to headshot the Trooper from the front over the gun shield's cover, the Trooper however can also be killed by headshotting them through the visor in the gun shield.
- A single shot from the RS-422 Railgun will completely destroy any Scout or Reinforced Strider, quickly piercing their armor and killing the trooper operating them.
- A grenade can easily take down a Strider if you throw it behind the it, (granted that it doesn't move out of the explosion radius) and impact grenades will instantly kill them if you score a direct hit on the legs, gun armor or underneath them.
- The Strider is notoriously weak to high explosives such as the AC-8 Autocannon or LAS-99 Quasar Cannon. A direct hit to the cockpit of the Strider should blow them to dirt, however it never too late to fire twice at them, just to make sure that they aren't going to get up again.
- Grenades shot from the GL-21 Grenade Launcher and GP-31 Grenade Pistol will bounce off the strider's front armor and will not detonate (at-least not where you expect them to). Aiming it at a surface near them or the ground the strider is standing on, or shooting a flat part of their legs, will yield better results.
- The PLAS-1 Scorcher can easily take out the strider as the small area of splash damage will destroy the bot behind the shield in 2-3 shots.
- The R-36 Eruptor used to consistently one shot striders if you aim near the view port near the top of the gun shield when fighting head-on. You could also shoot the gun shield from the side and the fragmentation would hit the trooper and destroy him and the strider. Aiming at the view port no longer works as of patch Patch 01.000.300, as striders now take less damage from explosives from the front.
- Charged shots from the ARC-3 Arc Thrower will pass through the front armor and hit the bot behind it.
- Continuous concentrated fire from the LAS-98 Laser Cannon can quickly destroy the cockpit sent the pilot into the depths of hell and destroy the strider completely, as such the area between their legs it also an easy target as well as some parts of their legs, as these have armor that the lazer cannon can quickly penetrate.
- Scout Striders are notoriously aggressive pursuit units and will chase Helldivers over long distances. They are also less likely to be fooled by smoke screens, and will fire through them more accurately than other troops.
- The Reinforced Scout Strider is equipped with four rockets, two one each side, which do not replenish when fired. Shooting those rockets makes them explode effectively destroying the Strider.
Notes[]
- Inspiration for the design of the Scout Strider most likely came from the AT-RT and the AT-ST from Star Wars and the Scout Sentinel used by the Astra Militarum in Warhammer 40,000.
- The Reinforced Scout Strider looks even closer to an AT-ST.
