Our way of life is why we fight!
~ SEAF Soldier

SEAF Soldiers, alternatively known as SEAF Troopers, are members of the S.E.A.F. Army, typically deployed across the Federation and encountered by Helldivers during the defense of Mega Cities. Equipped with AR-23 Liberators, G-6 Frag grenades, and the occasional EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank, they are a formidable light infantry unit.

When acting as part of a larger fireteam, SEAF Soldiers are more than capable of dispatching dozens of light and medium enemies, including hordes of Voteless, Scavengers, Overseers, Warriors and even taking down a lone Fleshmob or Hive Guard with little difficulty. How they fare against the Automatons has yet to be seen.

Note: For more information on the subject, see the main Super Earth Armed Forces article.

The standard issue kit of most S.E.A.F. Army soldiers bears some resemblance to those worn by the real-world United Nations Peacekeepers. Over the top of light blue combat fatigues is worn a set of standard issue B-01 Tactical armor and an open helmet, which provides basic protection from both pistol and rifle caliber bullets, as well as stab and slash attacks (represented by these areas having a Light armor value).

Protective goggles are worn for extra protection, along with a black balaclava. Finally, the most important part of the standard issue kit is a pair of leather-nylon combat boots, which are an essential part of any S.E.A.F. soldier's uniform. Soldiers are also provided with a tactical belt with several pouches for storing ammunition and other items, with the breastplate able to support the attachment of at least 3 more pouches.

Tactics[]

Duty! Fealty! Obedience!

"Civic duty at its finest."

SEAF Soldiers will typically move in fire-teams of 3-6, often actively fighting with or seeking out enemy forces by patrolling the streets and alleyways of the Mega Cities. They will fire on enemy patrols when encountered and will also attack enemy encampments.

However, they can break off from their patrols to support Helldivers, should they be commanded to do so. Currently, they can be divided into three types:

  • Rifleman: Standard SEAF Soldier armed with an AR-23 Liberator that they will fire in controlled bursts and G-6 Frag grenades which they throw at large groups, structure weak points and harder targets, such as Overseers.
  • Rocket Soldier: In addition to standard equipment, this soldier also carries an EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank launcher, which they will use against high-health units such as Fleshmobs and Harvesters. They will discard the launcher after it has been fired and will continue fighting as a regular rifleman.
  • Radioman: A soldier who carries a large backpack radio, presumably handling communications within a squad, although currently this is purely cosmetic and serves no purpose.

Once within engagement distance (typically within 35m), SEAF Soldiers will attack enemy targets with controlled bursts from their rifle, whilst occasionally throwing grenades to take out harder targets and large groups. Should they encounter high-health targets such as the Fleshmob, any Rocket Soldiers amongst them will fire their disposable anti-tank launchers at them.

SEAF Army and Helldiver

Though only having 72 hours of training, the SEAF Army Soldiers are surprisingly capable as not only will they take on large groups of enemies such as Voteless and Overseers just fine, but they will occasionally destroy enemy Encampments and sometimes even disable a Cognitive Disruptor by themselves. In such cases, they will use grenades to destroy enemy structures, including Warp Ships, Terminid Nests and Automaton Fabricators.

SEAF Soldiers can be made to follow Helldivers by using the "FOLLOW ME" command in the communications wheel, or made to hold their position by using the "HOLD" command. Alternatively, doing the Casual Salute (in which case they'll salute back) or the Lockstep emote will have the same effect. Additionally, they will salute any planted CQC-1 One True Flag they find in their way if they are not in combat.

Trivia[]

  • Friendly fire still applies to SEAF Soldiers, and it goes both ways. A careless Helldiver can get killed by standing infront of an SEAF Trooper's line of fire, or standing near one of their live grenades.
    • This does not mean that SEAF Soldiers that accidentally kill Helldivers can be killed, as they will still apply a -25 Requisition Slip penalty on the final mission payout.
  • SEAF Soldiers speak with a variety of different American accents, including Texan and Bronx accents. They also sometimes have British and Australian accents.
  • SEAF Soldiers will perform the Super Earth Salute differently to Helldivers, often tumbling or bumbling and even hesitating when saluted by a Helldiver.
    • In a similar fashion, civilians will often get the Salute completely wrong if they are ever saluted by Helldivers, either by using both hands or bending forth with improper posture.
  • SEAF Soldiers have one specific voiceline. It goes as follows: "For the Glory of Super Earth!". This might be a direct allusion to a similar battle cry from the Warhammer: 40,000 series that goes: "For the Glory of Ultramar!"[1]
  • SEAF Soldiers have been affectionately dubbed "blueberries" by some fans.[2]
  • SEAF Soldiers and civilians alike all have voicelines and scripted behaviors for when any Helldiver dies near them or they come across the late remains of any Helldivers.
  • When SEAF Soldiers were first introduced into the game, the AR-23 Liberator that they used did not have any scopes, attachments, or a magazine loaded, even when they were firing. However, this was difficult to notice due to their stance, especially in the middle of combat. These missing attachments for SEAF Soldiers were fixed in patch 01.003.101, and SEAF soldiers now use an AR-23 with iron-sights mounted, loaded with a standard 30rd magazine. It has no muzzle or underside attachments.
  • The uniform of the SEAF Soldiers bears some resemblance to those worn by the real-world United Nations Peacekeepers, most notably their blue armor and white uniform. Whilst this makes the soldiers stand out more than if they were wearing camouflage, camouflage itself may be pointless if the enemies of Super Earth aren't limited to the human visible spectrum for sight.
    • The Automatons have robotic eyes and scanners that can distinguish organic matter or thermal signatures from the environment no matter what camouflage is worn.
    • Even if Terminids can't just smell or hear their prey (and they probably can), many insects can see beyond the visible light spectrum. Furthermore, some Terminids will still make their way toward you even if you blow their heads off, indicating they don't even need to see, smell or hear to find their target.
    • Similar to the Automatons, the Illuminate have advanced sensors with the Watcher being more than capable of finding organic enemies regardless of the camouflage they wear. As for the Squ'ith themselves, like the Terminids, they might not even see the same spectrum of light or have other senses.
    • Given all of this, camouflage is likely pointless in the Helldivers universe, with it being more beneficial (and cost effective) to make the SEAF Soldiers as visible as possible to other humans, to avoid (or at least cut down on) friendly fire incidents.
      • This is all indirectly hinted at by the SC-30 Trailblazer Scout armor, whose patented fabric absorbs visible, infrared, and ultraviolet radiation to prevent detection by all known species, reducing the range at which enemies can detect the wearer by 30%.
  • SEAF Soldier gameplay.
