A desert planet prone to unpredictable and dangerous sand twisters.
~ Official Description

Pilen V is one of the five planets that reside within the Altus Sector. Following the success of Operation Niflheim, the planet would be chosen to host the galaxy's first Repulsive Gravity Field Generator, which is derived from captured Illuminate Dark Energy technology, and powered by massive quantities of Element-710.

Once completed, the Generator will theoretically generate enough Repulsive Gravity to resist the Meridia Wormhole’s movement enough to stop it once and for all.

Topography[]

One of the hottest planets in the Altus Sector, the terrain of the planet has been shaped by both it's geological instability, powerful winds and other erosional forces, resulting in landforms such as sand dunes, rocky outcrops, and salt flats dominating most of the planet.

History[]

Located close to the sol system, Pilen V was likely one of the first systems colonized by humanity during the Great Expansion Era that proceeded the end of the First Galactic War. No events worthy of note would occur throughout Pilen V's history after its initial settlement. This state of unnotable affairs would continue well into the first year of the Second Galactic War, with Pilen V being located too far from the Terminid frontline to be of any strategic importance.

Operation Ancient Vengeance[]

However, this wouldn't last forever. Following the resurgence of the Illuminate on Calypso in December of 2184, a new development would soon doom Pilen V's fate. The Illuminate would begin harvesting Dark Energy from the planets in the Southern Sectors and funneling into the Meridian Singularity, making it slowly move in the direction of Super Earth itself. Even after the deployment of the Penrose Siphon, Pilen V was still predicted to be the third to last planet destroyed before Super Earth itself should nothing be done to stop the singularity's advance.

Operation Niflheim[]

However the salvation of Pilen V (and indeed the entire federation) would be finally developed on April 16th, 2185, following the second successful scientific expedition into the Gloom. Immediately afterwords the galaxy's first Repulsive Gravity Field Generator, would begin construction on Pilen V. Derived from captured Illuminate Dark Energy technology, and powered by massive quantities of Element-710, the Generator will theoretically generate Repulsive Gravity to resist the Wormhole’s movement enough to stop it once and for all.

While construction of the experimental machinery will take time, this bold foray into theoretical geometrodynamics marks an exciting technological advance. Some however would question whether using less-than-fully-understood alien technology could be dangerous. While these concerns are understandable considering that the use of Dark Fluid was what created the Meridia singularity in the first place, Center of Science astrophysicists are confident that any unforeseeable risks have been sufficiently mitigated. One consequence, however, seems unavoidable: the reaffirmed supremacy and security of Managed Democracy.

Operation Sushi Bar and Omens Undone[]

However, the security of our citizens and democracy would be jeopardized by sudden illuminate attacks on Fenrir III and Plien V, attempting to halt development of the new Repulsive Gravity Field Generator. Thus High command ordered the defense of these planets at all costs.

After several days of fighting, the Illuminate attacks the Federation's critical infrastructure had been decisively rebuffed. During this, it became clear that the enemy was overextended themselves, revealing their desperation as their plan to destroy Super Earth falls to pieces. While some incursions on Fenrir III managed to overrun defenses and damage key facilities, the damage was minimized, and rebuilding already underway.

With this the work on the Repulsive Gravity Field Generator progresses and the ultimate fruits of our Federation-wide toil were soon within reach, requiring only one last valorous effort from all Helldivers, to finally stop the Meridian Singularity. As the Repulsive Gravity Field Generator neared completion on Pilen V, interference by the Illuminate was expected to peak as final activation neared.

To enable the actualization of our final, permanent victory over the resurgent alien race, the Helldivers were ordered to thin Illuminate forces and defend vital planets. Further, the Helldivers are ordered to gather E-710 by containing the Predator Strain outbreak on Turing. In the former effort, the Helldivers were successful, liberating Turing and gathering all the E-710 required to activate the Repulsive Gravity Field Generator, however dauntless efforts by the Helldivers the latter objective fell short of mission targets (by 4.5%). Despite this, the righteousness of humanity's cause has yielded an unequivocal victory nevertheless.

Though construction of the Repulsive Gravity Field Generator did not meet all design metrics, the bold action was taken to activate the device in its mostly-completed state. Soon after, the Centre of Science confirmed that the Meridian Wormhole had slowed to a halt. Furthermore, all Illuminate incursions would abruptly end, with the enemy disappearing. Unfortunately victory came at a price, as the Repulsive Gravity Field Generator also suffered what some have called a "catastrophic implosion."

The staff members lost in the implosion will be remembered as heroes, and the resultant crater will be converted into a heartfelt, stirring memorial. Search and scanning efforts are underway to locate any remaining Illuminate and eradicate them once more. For now, citizens of Nublaria I and all others in the Wormhole's path can breathe a sigh of relief: they are safe, thanks to the Helldivers.

The Invasion of Super Earth & Operation Party Crasher[]

On May 13th, 2185, the Illuminate fleet dubbed "The Great Host" would cross through the Meridia Wormhole into the Milky Way Galaxy form some unknown place far beyond Democracy's light. The fleet would immediately launch an invasion of the nearby world of Widow's Harbor.

After two days of fighting, Widow's Harbor would fall in the early hours of May 15th, after which The Great Host would then warp into the Pilen system several hours later. Though some notable damage had been done to the fleet thanks to the heroic efforts of the Helldivers and S.E.A.F., Cross-Ministry defense projections would unfortunately prove correct in that the fleets march towards Super Earth was... inevitable.

Even so, despite Pilen V projected to be overrun by the invasion fleet by May 17th, local S.E.A.F. defenders and redeployed Helldivers would hopefully be able to make a large enough dent in their numbers to sway the coming battle of Super Earth. As per predictions, Pilen V fell on May 17th, 17:52 SEST Time. 23.6 Million Helldivers gave their lives in the planets defense, killing 1.6 Billion Illuminate (mostly voteless) and damaging roughly 14% of the Great Host fleet. In the next hours, the great host arrived to New Haven system, which would also fall 2 days later.

Pilen V, Widow's Harbor and New Haven after Illuminate retreat

On May 30th, 13:15 SEST, The Illuminate fleet, broken and repelled from Super Earth, in final act has retreated from the three occupied planets, and razed their surfaces. Said worlds are back to Super Earth Control, but they are completely unusable due to this spiteful act.

FTL Timeline[]

  • February 8th, 2184: Pilen V is connected by FTL to New Haven.
  • June 13th, 2184: FTL line to New Haven is destroyed.
