Oasis is one of the seven planets that reside in the Rictus Sector
Topography[]
Similar to Baldrick Prime, Irulta and Regnus. Despite the name Oasis is not a desert world, but rather a tropical one, featuring everything from volcanic landscapes and rugged coastlines to lush rainforests.
Oasis has only one city of note, the planetary capital of Respite. A fitting name for the crown jewel of a tropical paradise world! If one were to ignore the many active volcanoes that dot the surface as well as the frequent torrential rainstorms.
History[]
Second Galactic War[]
Return of the Illuminate[]
Oasis was a peaceful planet colony of Super Earth located right on the southern edge of the Galactic Mid Rim. Following the victory after the First Galactic War, Super Earth navigators would discover Oasis and, given its favorable climate and the disponibility of new technologies during the Great Democratization, would see its colonization expedited. Following that, Oasis' history would remain as an uneventful blur, with its economy booming and its citizens quickly constructing urbanized settlements for their growing population.
However, Oasis would honor its namesake not only with its more than ideal climate but also with how it stood as a placid island of peace amidst the undemocratic black seas of infinity, with a scornful leviathan eyeing it with hunger. The
Illuminate, an alien race that had once fought against humanity, would make a surprising resurgence from their presumed extinction and immediately decided to wage war against Freedom once more.
On January 5th, 2185, Oasis would be attacked by an Illuminate raiding party as part of a campaign that had been going on since December of the past year. The Helldivers, despite being occupied with operations in the Marspira Sector, would dispatch a contingent to try and interfere with the Illuminate invasion as much as they could.
Operation Drydock Lockout[]
During the summer
Automaton offensive on the western front, Oasis was home to one of firewall breaching teams of the
Ministry of Defense Cyberwarfare division. Having identified a critical vulnerability in the
Automaton network, they began deconstructing firewall bypass nodes at over 120 WPM, however before they could complete their work the planet was invaded by
Illuminate forces on morning of July 16th.
If the
Helldivers could repel the
Illuminate assault, the cyber specialists would have been able to not only secure intel of high value against the current
Automaton invasion, but also weaken the attack in some way -- possibly via the deployment of a network wide virus. Unfortunately this outcome would not come to pass.
Even with sizeable force and the deployment of the
Democracy Space Station, it was not enough to save the world. Oasis would be captured by the
Illuminate on morning of July 17th. With it's Oasis' fall, the Cyberwarfare specialists were forced to abandon their work to circumvent the Automaton defense grid and evacuate the planet, completely annulling their work.
Operation Calamari Damacy[]
Strategic Opportunity: Jolly Workhands II[]
Although the previous attempt to implement the Jolly Weapons Workhands’ Extracurricular Initiative was less than successful,
Super Earth High Command recognized that to strike at the Gloom, our arsenal must be augmented. On September 26th, they once more called for the liberation of Varylia 5 to secure old weapon materials for our stout-hearted citizens to turn into brand new exosuits.
Additionally, rather than call for the liberation of munitions on Choepessa IV again, the Federation's attention would be drawn to Oasis as there were signs that the
Illuminate are storing Dark Fluid on the planet. If the stockpiles could be seized, they can be used to create additional Warp Packs. Only one of these initiatives could theoretically be prioritized during this time, but in the end the majority of the
Helldiver Corps would focus on the push towards Karlia.
By the 28th of September, with no additional materials procured for the Jolly Weapons Workhands’ Extracurricular Initiative,
Super Earth High Command would declare the strategic opportunity lost. Weapons production would proceed according to schedule, without beneficial increases in scope.
