Mortar Emplacement[]
The Mortar Emplacement is an Optional Objective contained within an Automaton outpost. It attempts to shoot at enemy targets within range. To complete the Objective,
Helldivers must destroy the Mortar Emplacements. It can spawn with Automaton Fabricators, ammo, and Samples around it.
Objective Steps[]
- Destroy Automaton Mortar emplacements
- Helldivers may use Eagle, Orbital or SEAF Artillery; such as Eagle Airstrikes, Orbital Precision Strike, a Hellbomb, any light vehicle armor penetrating support weapon such as the AC-8 Autocannon, or AT support weapons such as the MLS-4X Commando to destroy the emplacements.
- Reward: 200 Requisition, 50 Experience
The Mortar Emplacement is an Automaton tactical asset that constantly launches mortar shells at Helldivers within range. Incoming artillery shells can be heard by their whistling sound while airborne, along with the projectile itself glowing red and leaving a red trail behind them.
While relatively inaccurate, their large range and constant firing make them a high priority threat that should be dealt with immediately.
Tactics[]
- Mortars will fire on any helldiver within 150m of their location. They do not require direct line of sight, and will start shooting if a helldiver is detected by any other automaton while inside their effective range.
- Consequently this also means that if one is able to sneak up to a mortar emplacement without getting detected, they can be destroyed without them ever firing a shot.
- Mortars have a minimum effective range of 20m. Any enemy within this range is cannot be fired upon by them.
- While mortars are one of the better-hidden tactical assets of the automatons as their map signature blends in with other small automaton bases, their location can be pinpointed by tracing the smoke of their projectiles when they start firing. Their mortar shells also glow red, which makes them easier to spot against the sky.
- The backside of each Mortar has a pair of vents similar to the Anti-Air Emplacement. Shooting the Mortar's main chassis anywhere with Heavy Armor Piercing rounds, such as from the APW-1 Anti-Materiel Rifle, or using explosives will destroy them.
- Orbital Strikes and Airstrikes can be used to destroy them from a safe distance.
- Helldivers are given a Hellbomb in order to take it out. One person should arm it while the others defend them from the onslaught.
- Mortar strikes are inaccurate at first, but they do cause ragdoll as they hone in on the Helldivers. This can become a major problem if not taken out fast enough.
