~ Official Description |
The Ministry of Science (MoS) is a Ministry of
Super Earth. It presumably fills the need for both civil and military scientific research and development, relying on the
Helldivers to obtain samples on which to perform experiments on.
The Ministry of Science is also responsible for developing and funding certain experimental infrastructure projects, such as the Terminid Control System, the
Terminid Research Initiative, development for Termicide 1.0 and 2.0, and for developing ways to deploy the mysterious Dark Fluid.
Moradesh Project[]
“ | I've heard there's some kind of secret superweapon being worked on by our top scientists. Not the ones who made the Termicide, of course. They're all being interrogated for treason. Our other top scientists. | „ |
~ Ship Master |

Scientists on Moradesh were the ones responsible for developing a way to combat the Terminid Supercolony on Meridia, with the hope being that the "super weapon" developed would be Liberty's salvation. The details of this project remained highly classified, with the only guarantee being that the
Ministry of Science's best minds worked hard to bring this secret weapon to fruition and that it would involve the use of exotic Dark Fluid.
The Dark Fluid is a form of synthesized exotic matter liberated from the Illuminate following the First Galactic War. In a scientific breakthrough following the opening of a micro-blackhole in the research facility on Moradesh (spaghettifying twelve facility staff before fizzling out), our scientists had just engineered a solution to the
Terminid Supercolony.
The project would be an unadulterated success as at 15:25 SEST, on June 2nd, 2184, Meridia became the first system to be destroyed by use of Dark Fluid. All Super Destroyers in orbit received the order to make an emergency FTL jump to Super Earth or the nearby Turing system. A gravitational disturbance was confirmed in the Meridia system, with the planet of Meridia, its sun and every other celestial body in its solar system soon disappearing from the face of the galaxy as a beautiful purple black hole appeared in place of the supercolony.
Not long after, the Moradesh Research Facility was decommissioned following the total exhaustion of all Dark Fluid stores. The tireless scientists who contributed to the "Moradesh Project" were all awarded the Super Citizenship Medal of Freedom.
Terminid Research Initiative[]

~ Training Manual Tips |
In order to better predict certain previous unforeseeable outcomes when dealing with the Terminids, the
Ministry of Science has begun a
Terminid Research Initiative.
Terminid evolution is known to accelerate under duress. Therefore, in order to observe potential outcomes, applying controlled duress to the
Terminids will be necessary to scientific progress. Thus the
Helldivers were ordered to kill over one hundred million
Terminids -- which was accomplished in a little over eight hours. Sure enough, this aided the work of
Super Earth's scientists considerably, both thanks the efficacious
Terminid-eradication methodologies as well as behavior observed in the field.
One key ancillary finding was that Terminids produce higher-quality E-710 when harvested under extreme duress. This finding will guide future E-710 acquisition policy, assuring our access to unhindered FTL travel capabilities. Additionally, close observation of the
Terminids did uncover a new behavior: the construction of spore-producing towers, roughly the size of small skyscrapers.
Whilst the Ministry of Science has deemed this new behavior to be harmless, it will be closely monitored just in case. In any case, the
Terminid Research Initiative was continued into Operation Glorious Xenocide, where
Helldivers demonstrated a commitment to scientific progress equaled only by their fervor for Democratic supremacy. Thanks to their efforts, the
Ministry of Science was able to gather even more data to further ongoing
Terminid research efforts.
While no clear method of termination has proved to produce more E-710 than any other, the Ministry of Science's top researchers all agreed that establishing this beyond doubt was well worth the expenditure. However, with the large quantities of data gathered, one new finding did emerge: Terminid mutations, rather than appearing randomly as previously hypothesized actually decreased in frequency as proximity to
Super Earth increased. Indeed it now appears that genetic variants are perpetuating from deep within
Terminid space. The explanation for this new phenomenon is yet unknown, and more investigation is necessary.
On the 25th of January, 2185, the brilliant scientists stationed at the Xenoentomology Center on Turing would report a new major discovery, one with huge implications for the future of citizen prosperity and Managed Democracy itself. Recent experimentation on Terminids using collected Gloom spores indicated that Gloom-induced mutations may dramatically increase Element-710 yield. In lab conditions, some specimens yielded up to 10x more E-710 compared to the control group.
The implications of this result are monumental, as the Gloom may represent a vast, untapped source of new energy. Its exploitation could enable FTL travel beyond military and colony settlement operations - expanding to trade and research sectors, as well as to more military and colony settlement operations. Of course, many challenges must be overcome to realize this potential future. These early results had to be substantiated and verified, and the Gloom itself remains impenetrable to all observation or travel within. Therefore, development of Gloom-resistant technology is now a top-level priority.
The Xenoentomology Center would be directed to halt all other research projects and focus on this singular field. The Helldivers, meanwhile, were directed to support these efforts by collecting as many scientific samples as possible from Gloom-adjacent
Terminid planets. However, having learned from the counterfeit samples debacle, new detection measures had been put in place and strengthened since such samples were received the last time the
Ministry of Science made such a request. Fortunately, the
Helldivers proved that they are specimen retrieval experts and stalwart allies of scientific progress, in addition to being Democracy's most elite defenders.
After innumerable scientific expeditions, the Xenoentomology Center was given more than enough Terminid specimens to progress development on Gloom-resistant technology. The samples collected by the
Helldivers allowed the Xenobiologists to artificially create Gloom-like environments in laboratory conditions, allowing testing of filtration systems and spore-resistant materials. Extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic waves in particular proved effective at penetrating dense Gloom, and may enable orbit-to-ground communication and long-range radar astronomy. Much work remains, but thanks to the
Helldivers, the first expedition into the Gloom—and subsequent acquisition of its vast E-710 reserves—has been completed, although when another might happen is something that we can't be sure of.
Penrose Energy Siphon[]
“ | "It's a giant rocket that we put close enough to the Singularity to be swept up in its rotation, but not so close that it falls in, and then blasts back out using tons and tons of E-710, thereby stealing some of the Singularity's energy. Hail Super Earth." | „ |
~ Penrose Energy Siphon, Center of Science -- Fenrir III |
Following the destruction of Moradesh and Angel's Venture, it was clear to the whole federation that the time for action was at hand. If nothing was done, then Ivis would be the next planet destroyed, followed by Nublaria I, then Pilen V. The Centre of Science on Fenrir III, after significant research on
Illuminate technology and E-710, would propose a multi-stage plan to counteract the movement of the Meridian Singularity.
Stage II of this plan involved the construction of the Penrose Energy Siphon: a means by which to effect a large one-time reduction in Dark Energy accumulation. The process is highly scientific and sophisticated. Helpfully, a Helldiver-friendly explanation has been provided by the
Centre of Science (see above), but for the more in depth and scientifically inclined explanation, see below.
The 'giant rocket' will be launched towards Meridia where it will maneuver into Meridia's ergosphere -- a region just outside the event horizon, influenced by the black hole's rotation. At the lowest point of its orbit, the spacecraft will fires a propellant backwards -- in this case tons and tons of E-710 -- deeper into the singularity, with the remains of the body, being sped up. The rocket then flies away with an excess of energy that more than offsets the loss of the propellant and the energy used to shoot it, with a bonus of taking away some of the Singularity's energy and (hopefully) slowing it down.
Ministry of Science Facilities[]
- Xenoentomology Center - Turing, OCCUPIED: Woven seamlessly into the surrounding alien flora is an architectural marvel of glass, alloys, and biotechnological interfaces. At this cutting-edge research facility, the brightest minds of the
Super Earth Armed Forces work tirelessly to prototype the next leap in spacefaring technology. Currently overrun with
Terminids of the Predator Strain released during an
Illuminate raid.
Terminid Research Preserve - Acamar IV, DESTROYED: A controlled environment that was dedicated to seeding
Terminids within secured multi-acre areas, surrounded by a layered network of robust electrified fences. The
Terminid population was monitored at all times by
S.E.A.F. Wardens, and encircled by electrical fencing above and below-ground. In the unlikely event of a containment breach, nuclear bombardments are set to automatically trigger.
- Center of Science - Fenrir III, ACTIVE: On this planet, the
Ministry of Science's best and brightest work on their next breakthrough. Upon completion, top astrophysicists from the
Ministry of Science immediately convened there to closely study the Meridia Singularity and instantly the project yielded valuable insights, chiefly that the black hole is actually a wormhole.
- Moradesh Dark Fluid Research Facility - Moradesh, DECOMMISSIONED - Decommissioned following the total exhaustion of all Dark Fluid stores. The tireless scientists who contributed to the destruction of Meridia have been awarded the Super Citizenship Medal of Freedom. During their efforts, an unfortunate incident occurred, which resulted in the spaghettification of 12 facility members.
Ampudyne[]

Logo of Ampudyne
Ampudyne is a mega-corporation that is the main source of robotics in the Federation of Super Earth. While officially a private company, Ampudyne works closely with the
Ministry of Science and operates much like a state-run business.
With approval from the Ministry of Science, Ampudyne notably manufactures grenades and provides robotic replacement limbs for injured citizens. Citizens who lose a limb while working are encouraged to sign their life over to Ampudyne's Indentured Labor Force, where they are given all the replacement limbs they need to do the jobs that the Federation requires.
