A compact, low calibre machine gun. Trades power for ease of use, with faster reloading than heavier machine guns.
~ Stratagem Description

The M-105 Stalwart is a support weapon that specializes against massed hordes of lightly-armored enemies.

Role[]

Acting as the game's light machine gun, the Stalwart is the more mobile variant of the machine gun when its compared to the MG-43 Machine Gun as it sacrifices damage and armor penetration in exchange for a higher rate of fire, a larger ammunition supply, and so that it can be reloaded without having to remain stationary.

These qualities make it ideal for fighting against the Terminids Icon Terminids and the Illuminate Icon Illuminate, due to their general lack of armored units and the requirement to be mobile as much as possible. However, after the Illuminate update it has somewhat lost its potential against them due to more heavier enemies that now spawn in fairly large numbers.

Gameplay Tips[]

  • Despite it lacking the penetration power of other support weapons, it's a lot more flexible than most of them. When compared to the other machine guns it is much more accurate when fired from the hip, or while moving. It is also reloaded quite quickly, and, most importantly, without having to stand still. And it has by far the largest ammunition supply. Due to all of these attributes, the Stalwart makes for a very handy tool with which to mow down swarms of lesser armored chaff enemies, allowing Helldivers to take either a precision or an explosive primary weapon to use against other targets.
  • The weapon shines the most when used against the Terminids and the Illuminate.
    • The weapon's very high ammunition belt capacity and RoF make it invaluable for fending off Hunter, Warrior, and Shrieker swarms.
    • These attributes are also what makes it effective when used against the Illuminate Voteless, Fleshmobs, and Overseers (albeit forcing users to mostly aim exclusively at the body). The high RoF makes the weapon a great option for use against Harvester shields as it depletes them quickly, and when their shield is down they become vulnerable to anti-tank weapons and stratagems.
  • On the other hand, its attributes are less desirable for use against the Automatons Icon Automatons, and although they generally field fewer units, they do have heavier armor. While it can still function fairly well as a backup weapon against Berserkers for when they close in on a player, its best used against them with it set to the highest RPM firing mode. However, other support weapons are advised for use against the Automatons.
    • If one has a penchant for headshots, the Stalwart's low recoil makes pulling off headshots quite easy against Devastators and against other Automaton units that have a visible head. The Stalwart can only penetrate light armor, which means that these units will not flinch if hit anywhere other than the head, which makes burst shots more accurate and useful.
  • If there's a bullet remaining in the chamber before reloading it, the total reload time will be reduced by roughly 0.4 seconds as it will then skip the animation of racking the charging handle.

Trivia[]

  • The Stalwart is based on an identically named weapon from the first game. But unlike how its functioned in the first game, it is not a primary weapon in Helldivers 2, in which it functions as a support weapon stratagem instead.
  • Unlike the Stalwart from Helldivers 1, which uses a bull pup design similar to the British L86 LSW, this iteration uses a conventional design which appears to borrow elements from both the H&K MG4 and the FN Minimi-Para.
