An accurate, hard-hitting laser revolver with bespoke break action for heat sink swaps.
~ Armory Description

The LAS-58 Talon is a "revolver-style" laser pistol utilized in Helldivers 2.

It is unlocked in the second page of the Warbond: Borderline Justice.

Role:[]

The LAS-58 is a true frontiersman's sidearm. Its laser-based nature removes reliance on constant ammunition supplies, so long as the shooter can manage the heat properly.

The medium-penetrating nature of the gun, allows it to engage a plethora of light and medium-armored troops, making it a very versatile dedicated sidearm. However, it is very quick to heat up, requiring a degree of marksmanship from the shooter to make the most out of it in a fight.

Gameplay Tips[]

  • The LAS-58 shoots laser bolts instead of beams, much like the LAS-16 Sickle. However, it is semi-automatic.
  • As it is a laser weapon, the LAS-58 can fire indefinitely, as long as the heat sink is not overheated.
    • Depending on how fast the gun is fired and if there are any environmental factors affecting heat cooldown, on average it can rapidly shoot between 6-8 rounds before the heat sink is destroyed.
    • It is typically 7 rapidfire shots before it overheats, hence it is recommended to treat it like a true western 6-shooter and limit one to 6 shots per rapid volley, before letting it cool down.
  • The gun comes with a small reflex slight to aid in precision aim.
  • With medium armor penetration and 200 pts of damage, the LAS-58 functions as a more versatile P-4 Senator, trading heavy-armor penetration for staying power.
  • Due to its energy-based projectiles, the Talon's laser bolts are not affected by drag. Meaning they do not suffer from bullet drop and will deal full damage to their target, regardless of range. This makes it a decent sniper pistol for the dead-eye'd Helldiver.

Trivia[]

  • While an entirely fictional pistol, the LAS-58's design is inspired by popular old-western revolvers. The distinctly-curved revolver grip and bulky barrel profile is reminiscent of the Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver, while the top-break reload style when the heat sink has to be swapped out is based on the Smith and Wesson Schofield revolver.
    • The rapidfire nature and low ammo capacity is likely a reference to "Revolver Fanning", a show technique involving rapidly resetting the hammer with the off-hand to achieve a high rate of fire. While not realistically practical for a variety of reasons, even during the time period, it is a popular trope in American Wild West culture.
