Karlia is one of five planets that reside in the Omega Sector. Following Operation Calamary Damacy, Karlia's atmosphere has been saturated with aerosolized Gloom-resistant polymers, used to shield the
Democracy Space Station from the damaging effects of The Gloom.
Topography[]
Similar to Herthon Secundus. A scorching wasteland with a rough, difficult terrain full of narrow passages between tall, imposing mountains and monoliths. The intense heat will easily bog down the stamina and make heat build up in weapons faster. In addition, the Fire tornadoes can easily ignite and kill anyone and anything caught in their way, causing a slow, painful death.
The Karlia System is comprised of planet Karlia itself, its moon, and at least 3 other astronomical bodies, which are a red dwarf planet, a volcanic planet with a ring system and its orbiting white, rocky moon.
History[]
Second Galactic War[]
Singularity Crisis[]
A Helldiver explores the outskirts of an urban settlement in Karlia. April 21st, 2185
Karlia was, for much of its recorded history, a simple planet colony of Super Earth far in the Southern Galactic Rim. Despite its hostile climate, it would be successfully colonized by the
Federation of Super Earth during the Great Expansion Era after the end of the First Galactic War. After its initial settlement, its history would remain without much moments worthy of mention, as its economy developed and its population centers grew into sprawling urbanized colonies.
However, this prosperity would become the magnet of envy as an old enemy stared from the shadows. The
Illuminate, an alien race that had once been defeated during the First Galactic War, had returned with desires of revenge.
By April of 2185, Karlia had managed to avoid the Second Galactic War entirely, even after the Illuminate began to send out invasions into the Omega Sector in order to harvest resources, abduct civilians to replenish the losses of their Voteless hordes and, crucially, harvesting Dark Energy which they would then funnel into the Meridian Singularity with the express purpose of moving it towards Super Earth. However, following Operation Apocalypse Cancelled, the Illuminates' plans would be significantly thwarted, as the Singularity would be powered down severely, enough for the Singularity to halt before it got close to Super Earth yet still retaining enough energy to continue with its path of destruction.
Seeking to replenish the lost energy, the Illuminate would redouble their efforts, by invading planets that they hadn't invaded prior. Karlia, given its hostile climate and frequent fire tornadoes, would remain mostly safe. However, that safety would be shattered when, on April 9th, 2185, the Illuminate deployed an invasion fleet onto the planet. Despite many Helldivers deploying to aid in the defense, the Illuminate would succeed and leave the planet 12 hours later.
Yet, this invasion would not be the end of things. On April 21st, the Illuminate dispatched a second invasion fleet shortly after their foiled invasion of Leng Secundus hours prior. With the Helldivers having just completed Operation Vermintide, they immediately moved on to critical planets, Karlia among them.
Operation Squid Eviction[]
Its last defense in April would be Karlia's last involvement in the War for some time. After a series of raids by the
Illuminate across the Federation's critical hubs, including the
Factory Hub,
Xenoentomology Centre, and the
Centre of Science, they would eventually disappear without a trace by April 29th. With the Singularity Crisis seemingly over and the Squ'ith nowhere to be seen, it was summarily believed that they were handily defeated after their plot of carnage failed. Two weeks later, a stunning development would shatter that newfound gusto across all of
Super Earth and its colonies.
On May 13th, amidst ongoing invasions by both the Terminid
Predator Strain and Automaton
Incineration Corps on Nublaria I and Zzaniah Prime, satellite imagery observing the Meridian Singularity recorded a horrifying situation. Hundreds upon hundreds of
Illuminate Overships emerged from the wormhole and knocked out the satellite grid, all before reaching Widow's Harbor and beginning the single largest assault throughout the entirety of the Second Galactic War. Worst of all, Widow's Harbor wasn't their true target: it was Super Earth itself.
Tired of hiding in the shadows, the
Illuminate had finally revealed their true force and, according to High Command, were heading for Super Earth itself. A state of emergency was issued, and all
Helldivers were ordered to abort the ongoing operations on Nublaria and Zzaniah to defend against a reported Illuminate fleet strength of roughly 800 invasion fleets. Further, High Command informed the Helldivers that the Illuminate could not be stopped on the Harbor, nor Pilen V or New Haven. A battle on Super Earth was fully inevitable.
A week later, all 3 of Widow's Harbor, Pilen V, and New Haven had fallen to the
Illuminate Great Host. The unthinkable would shortly come to pass, as just moments later, the battle for Super Earth had officially begun as the Illuminate made planetfall. With SEAF units besieged across the planet, it would be up to the
Helldivers to make their stand on each of the planet's seven Mega Cities. So long as one city stood by the end of the Fleet's strength, Super Earth would remain in liberty's embrace.
Ten days later, with each day bloodier than the next, and the deaths of at least 120,000,000
Helldivers, the
Illuminate had suffered too many losses to sustain their assault. The cowardly Squ'ith survivors had fled in retreat. Super Earth and the
Helldivers were victorious.
From May 30th onwards, with the entire Federation overwhelmed with sheer jubilance, High Command had been hard at work attempting to locate where the runaway
Illuminate departed to, seeking to finish them off once and for all. That time would come late at night on June 6th as the Illuminate had been located on four different planets in the Galactic South, seemingly establishing supply reserves as they attempted to stave off detection for as long as possible. The
Helldivers were immediately ordered to liberate each hideout on Mog, Bellatrix, Hydrobius, and Haldus. They were further told that it was likely the Illuminate were located on other planets, and that the liberation of these hideouts would pinpoint the location of other Illuminate reserve caches.
Sadly, Operation Deep Cleaning had failed. The
Helldivers had successfully liberated both Mog and Bellatrix, but were stymied in their attempts to liberate Hydrobius and Haldus. Despite their valiant efforts, some of the
Illuminate's remote bases had evaded justice, with the rest of their unknown hideouts still to be discovered. Despite failing to meet their deadline, the Helldivers were encouraged to continue their liberation efforts on Hydrobius and Haldus. This wasn't to last, however, as a massive, unprovoked invasion by the
Terminids erupted into highly-populated Mega Cities in the Korpus Sector. All
Helldivers were ordered to stage a defense and were directly told to postpone ongoing operations in pursuit of the Illuminate to aid against the Terminid plague.
By June 13th, with the attacks by the
Terminids still ongoing, news had emerged from High Command informing the
Helldivers of a satellite breach. The
Illuminate had planted interference devices during the Battle for Super Earth in an apparent sabotage. In the Galactic South, numerous planets near Illuminate territory were no longer observable, and all communication was cut off. Analysts had assessed the activity on these planets to be extremely anti-Democratic, and it was clear the Illuminate were up to no good.
Sadly for Karlia, it so happened to be among the six planets that were seemingly undergoing something sinister. On June 17th, these fears were unfortunately confirmed. Shortly after the successful defense against the
Terminids, the sabotaged deep-space satellite was finally restored. Observability of each of the six affected planets was restored, uncovering all of the sinister work done by the
Illuminate. In a truly brazen, novel act of war, the Illuminate had taken control of Karlia, Herthon Secundus, Alaraph, Alamak VII, Alairt III, and Heze Bay during the sabotage. Worst of all, on the highly populated worlds of Alamak VII and Alairt III, the Illuminate hadn't just taken control of their Mega Cities- they had re-engineered the entirety of the cities into unrecognizable, grotesque citadels of tyranny. Buildings were transformed into xeno-structures, and millions of civilians had been converted into hostile Voteless combatants. Despite the tragedy of the lesser-populated planets such as Karlia, High Command had no choice but to issue an order for the
Helldivers to reclaim both Alamak and Alairt to stop the Squ'ith from holding onto these newfound totalitarian strongholds.
Karlia, now locked behind the FTL lines of the Illuminate-controlled Alaraph and Hydrobius, was doomed to remain under Illuminate control for much longer. It still remains under their vile control... until now.
Operation Calamari Damacy[]
The push towards Karlia
On the 23rd of September, 2185,
Super Earth High Command would admit with great humility that the Great Expedition into the Gloom has been met with undue resistance. In order to seize the Hive World and its abundance of E-711, High Command would approve a number of improvements and augmentations to the
Democracy Space Station: application of a quintuple coating of spore-resistant polymers, installation of a prototype Atmospheric Autoclave, and implementation of a crew-wide spore quarantine protocol.
However the spore-resistant polymer coating that allows Super Destroyers to enter the Gloom has proven time-consuming to apply using traditional methods. Fortunately, engineers have identified that Karlia possesses the ideal gravitational and atmospheric conditions for aerosolizing these polymers, allowing for spray application that is efficient, accurate, and airway-safe. However, Karlia lay deep within
Illuminate territory, thus the
Helldivers would not only have to seize Karlia from the
Illuminate, but also establish a secure perimeter around the planet. The
DSS is after all, mankind's greatest weapon: it must be sharpened and honed in a suitably safe and secure environment.
After the heroic liberation of the Alaraph System by the valiant
Helldivers forces, an allied FTL Line was finally opened to Karlia, allowing the
Super Earth forces to land on the planet, and start liberating it, though not much progress was made, on the surface nor on the Adnan Metropolis, the only city the planet has, because the
Helldivers quickly shifted their democratic focus on liberate Hydrobius, to create a "Siege Liberation" on Karlia, a movement in which Alaraph and Hydrobius should be liberated, this will allow the complete separation of Karlia from all other
Illuminate forces occupying the southern part of the galaxy, enable the total destruction of any resistance on the planet, and add a negative resistance of 0.50%, as seen in other Siege Liberations operations, such as the recent one on Demiurg.
Hydrobius would finally be liberated on the 29th, cutting Karlia off from the rest of the
Illuminate Empire and shattering any hope of the Squ'ith putting up an organized defense. The
S.E.A.F. would immedately launch a general ground offensive to retake the world with the heroic support of the
Helldivers. On late evening of same day, the planetary capital of Adnan was liberated by combined might of Helldivers, SEAF and
Democracy Space Station, further causing Illuminate defense to collapse. On the following morning, Karlia was confirmed Squi'th free. The crew of DSS spared not a single second, and begun upgrading the DSS. Karlia's[1] atmosphere was saturated with heavy amount of polymers, allowing to coat the station evenly in record time. It is unknown how this may influence the living conditions on the planet. Engineers also installed a prototype Atmospheric Autoclave, capable of purging 50km3 of atmospheric spores per minute[2] - thus in theory reducing the Terminid strength on any planet it may orbit.
Operation Relentless Uproot[]
Amidst the
Helldiver operation to finally liberate Hive World Oshaune from the
Terminids, the
Democracy Space Station would finally be deployed to the planet to aid
S.E.A.F. operations, directly reducing Terminid resistance on the planet from 7% to 5%. However, the DSS would begin to show signs of degradation on October 31 and November 1st, leading High Command to notify the
Helldivers of the situation.
In the early hours of November 2nd, the DSS was supposedly on the brink of failure. The
Helldivers were thus given 2 options for their next space station vote: whether to send the
Democracy Space Station to Karlia to reapply the polymer coating to protect it from The Gloom once more, or to keep it on Oshaune and risk station damage. The Helldivers would overwhelmingly vote to send the DSS to Karlia, saving the DSS and enabling engineers to reapply the polymer shield. The DSS would deploy back to Oshaune nearly 12 hours later, now facing no worries of system failure and once again reducing
Terminid resistance to 4%.
Operation Bigger Apple[]
Karlia, much like the rest of the
Federation of Super Earth, would rejoice in sheer jubilance following the great liberation of Hive World Oshaune by November 4th. However, Karlians would be somewhat unique in their celebrations, having been almost directly responsible for the victory due to their DSS upgrades and maintenance that lowered
Terminid resistance, enabling the
Helldivers to set forth on the path to victory.
In the meantime, whilst the battles were raging on against the
Terminids, Karlia's colonial overseer would change FTL lines in accordance with the entirety of the Galactic South. Now, all southern sectors had FTL lines and were no longer isolated, and Karlia itself would break down its line to Alaraph in favor of new connections to Keid and Alathfar XI, both within the same Akira Sector. However, as fate would have it, the
Illuminate would also establish their own new FTL lines from their current positions within the Omega, Rictus, and Cancri Sectors to the Akira, Saleria, and Gothmar Sectors, seemingly suggesting that their wider offensive to capture the rest of the South was imminent.
Following the successful battle on Oshaune, the
Helldivers would deploy to all 3 fronts to liberate Fenmire, Effluvia, and Terrek whilst no new Major Orders were issued. On November 6th, shortly after the liberation of Fenmire, two powerful
Illuminate attacks would occur within the South: one on Shete in the Xi Tauri Sector that had begun on the 5th, and a new, powerful attack of 40 battalions on Alaraph. Moments after, new orders were issued by High Command. Andar and Asperoth Prime, heavily populated planets within the Akira Sector, had been designated by
Super Earth as the two planets that would see their untapped limestone and iron reserves extracted. The purpose of this resource extraction would be to aid in the rebuild of York Supreme, one of Super Earth's Megacities that were devastated by the
Illuminate during the battle for Super Earth in May. However, the Illuminate had seemingly just begun a new offensive toward these two planets, seeking to gain control of their key resources while also taking advantage of their position as further gateways to the rest of the Galactic South, including the Saleria and Guang Sectors. As such, with the new Illuminate offensive ongoing, the
Helldivers were ordered to hold Andar and Asperoth until the 13th of November so that the key resources could be extracted without issue.
Two days into the operation, the
Helldivers had been largely on the front foot. Though Karlia's southeastern flank of Hydrobius would fall on the 8th, Shete and Alaraph would both be defended with relative ease, striking a decisive blow to the
Illuminate's hope of reaching either Andar or Asperoth. The Helldivers would then be split up between both the Southern and Western Fronts for some time as well, as the
Automatons launched an assault on Clasa. The Corps would further flock to the West after a minor order was issued by High Command, calling for the liberation of Barabos from the bots so that native flora could be carefully uprooted and replanted on Super Earth to rebuild its rainforests.
Having been thoroughly beaten back thus far, the
Illuminate would now plot where to take their offensive next. With Karlia's new supply lines to Keid and Alathfar, which were both connected to Asperoth and Andar, it seemed that the fiery world was now next in the firing line as the tendrils of tyranny sought to wreak havoc wherever they went. Sure enough, Karlia's colonial overseer would raise the defense beacon as a powerful Illuminate invasion fleet originating from Hydrobius began a ground incursion on the planet.
With the liberation of Barabos rapidly ensuing, a smaller contingent of the
Helldiver Corps would deploy to Karlia to engage the
Illuminate ground forces in the City of Adnan and in the smaller, rural and urban settlements. However, with an invasion level noted as a level 30, the Corps would need much more than the small 5,000 that they had sent to engage in battle.
Luckily, Barabos would be liberated within just 14 hours of the minor order being issued, and with it, 55% of the Corps, along with the
Democracy Space Station, would all immediately deploy to the hellish Karlia to stop the
Illuminate advance. This massive influx of
Helldivers would flood the streets of Adnan, bringing newfound hope to its citizens as they purged the Illuminate from every corner, every road, and every sidewalk. Eventually, Adnan would be defended in swift order, and with it, Karlia was virtually defended as well.
By the early morning hours of the 10th, Karlia was handily defended, and the
Illuminate offensive was once again rebuffed decisively with the Squ'ith nowhere near either Andar or Asperoth Prime so far.
