The GL-21 is one of the stratagems available to the player. It is an infantry-carried semi-automatic grenade launcher, fed using a short belt of 10 grenade shells.
The weapon has great destructive potential against light and medium-armored enemies due to its power and AoE, but struggles against heavy units. Still, its high stagger potential and low recoil allow it to deal lots of unanswered damage in a short time.

Gameplay Tips[ | ]
- The weapon can be fired in an elevated arch to increase its potential range.
- The weapon can destroy both bug holes and bot fabricators. Fabricators must be shot from the vents, or when the factory door is open.
- The weapon is effective against both factions, capable of decimating the Terminids' hordes of light infantry, or taking down the Automatons' Devastator squads.
- The weapon cannot penetrate heavy armor, but effective against heavy units' weakpoints.
- The weapon is best used with a Resupply Pack stratagem, as it allows the user to liberally use the grenade launcher more often with a total of 80 spare grenades, plus 30 with the weapon itself.
- Carrying any backpack gives the user more versatility than an AC-8 Autocannon user that must keep their ammo backpack nearby.
- The 40mm grenades have a much greater chance of ricocheting than other ammo types. It is advised not to shoot this weapon at heavy-armor plating with allies nearby, as it may cause the shell to ricochet and hit an unintented target.
- The grenades also have a minimum arming distance, inside of which the grenade will not immediately detonate. This may be bypassed by aiming at the ground between the user and a close target, but at risk of the grenade passing through the target's legs.
Strategy[ | ]
- The weapon is a simple point-and-shoot type of gun against most targets.
- This cannot penetrate a charger's front armor, but is very effective against their unarmored rear.
- This also cannot penetrate a bile titan's armor, but can destroy their bile sacs underneath to force them to stop vomiting, and slowly kill them.
- Most Automaton heavies are strong against the GL-21, but can still be destroyed by hitting their weak points in the rear.
- Best brought along for Terminid Blitz missions, as it has more than enough ammo to accomplish the objective on its own, and makes destroying nests in quick-succession very easy and safely.
