A rocky, lonely moon with extremely valuable mineral deposits underneath the surface.
~ Official Description

On this planet, the Ministry of Science's best and brightest work on their next breakthrough.
~ Centre of Science Description

Fenrir III is one of the four planets that reside within the Umlaut Sector. Its general landscape consists of subzero temperatures and open lands peppered with large craters. It was on this planet where the new Predator Strain of   Terminids from The Gloom would first appear on February 15th, 2185.

Topography[]

Fenrir III's surface is dominated by grey, rocky plateaus. Though the moon is largely barren, sparse amounts of bush-like vegetation have been known to survive its frigid climate. Intermittent meteor storms have left Fenrir III pock-marked by craters. Citizens are advised to stay indoors to avoid such meteor impacts.

History[]

Special Military Operations[]

Fenrir III was, up until February 2184, a peaceful mining colony of Super Earth in the Fenrir System, its barren landscape standing just far away enough from its star to be habitable yet cold, as its colonists rotated between shifts at the mines and taking shelter from the occasional Meteor Storms that constantly befell this planet.

However, among these Meteor Storms came one that would permanently scar this planet more than any other. On February 10th, 2184, Fenrir III would be overwhelmed by the landfall of several   Terminids onto its surface, during one of the very first engagements between Super Earth and the alien insects.

With casualties mounting and Terminid numbers rising, the Colonial Overseer called upon the broader SEAF for reinforcements. Luckily for him, with the ongoing Terminid outbreak, Super Earth High Command had just issued an order for the reactivation of the mightiest force of them all: The Helldivers.

Operation Valiant Enclosure[]

The very first Helldiver Operation was to repel the advancing Terminid forces at Heeth and Angel's Venture, key chokepoint planets that are crucial to getting past the Umlaut Sector. However, the Helldivers would demonstrate peak combat readiness and, while taking on the hordes at both planets successfully, they also managed to advance into Fenrir. By February 14th, the Helldivers had easily secured both of the objective planets but the fighting at Fenrir hadn't ceased, just as it hadn't ceased anywhere else.

With the appearance of the Automatons on the Severin Sector, the Helldivers would have to divert towards Ubanea and Draupnir, as the newly appeared foe began to encroach upon more and more planets. Due to this untimely foe interfering with the Helldivers, Fenrir III was not fully liberated until February 18th.

Operation Veld Containment[]

However, Fenrir III would be unable to rebuild its defenses, as too many able-bodied citizens had been slain in the defense of their homes. Fittingly, once the Terminids made a second attempt against Fenrir on March 1st, it fell immediately, leading to its total capture before the Helldivers could even heed its call for aid. As such, amidst the operation to liberate Veld from the nefarious bugs, Fenrir III was liberated on March 2nd without much incident.

But the Terminids persisted and, before any defense could be mounted, attacked Fenrir III yet again and recaptured it, requiring a second subsequent liberation campaign that would come to an end on March 3rd. Yet, after 2 defeats, the odious insects continued further, attacking once more and taking over the planet, requiring a third liberation campaign that only came to an end on March 4th.

But even still, after 3 defeats, the Terminids persisted and, on March 4th, the Terminids attacked Fenrir III a fourth consecutive time, this time managing to hold onto the planet.

Installation of the Terminid Control System[]

While the Terminids desperately tried to latch onto Fenrir's barren surface, Super Earth's scientists had devised a solution for the odious fascist infestation. The TCS (Terminid Control System) was a network of towers capable of dispersing industrial amounts of the novel "Termicide", a neurotoxin engineered to exclusively kill Terminids while leaving all other lifeforms unharmed. As such, Super Earth High Command issued a major order to capture not just Fenrir III, but all of the Umlaut Sector in order to install the TCS towers on them, making the Umlaut Sector into a network of Barrier Planets that would prevent further Terminid Expansion.

On March 13th, Fenrir III would be liberated for a sixth consecutive time, allowing for the installation of the Terminid Control System and putting an end to the early Terminid outbreak, allowing Fenrir's colonists respite and relief as they were finally able to return to their sufficiently sized dwellings.

Failure of the Terminid Control System[]

For the first time in 2 months, Fenrir III would enjoy prosperity and freedom like it had never done before. Safe from any further Terminid incursions, the population of the colony exploded and its economy boomed, as the Ministry of Expansion conducted several efforts into the nearby Draco and Mirin Sectors, installing new infrastructure and settling new planets as Fenrir III slowly began to serve more and more as a handy transport hub planet through which flowed an important portion of travel and resources that then went onto other sectors.

As the Automatons were finally purged from the Severin Sector on April 3rd, the people of Fenrir celebrated the righteous victory at Malevelon Creek while the President of Super Earth officially declared it the Malevelon Creek Memorial Day. However, fascism is an ever-present threat, its treachery seeping and growing in the tiniest of shadows.

On April 6th, the Automatons would return from deep space, invading Cyberstan and taking over the Valdis Sector. Then, on April 29th, catastrophe ensued upon the Barrier Planets.

Through an unknown process known as hormesis, a minuscule portion of the Terminids that still remained at Fenrir for farming purposes had developed immunity to the Termicide. These Terminids slowly began to breed more and more rapidly until, on April 29th, they surprinsingly overran all Barrier Planets at once, with Meridia's broods managing to reproduce at an alarmingly fast rate, up to 20 times faster than normal.

Meridia would fall to the Terminids, only for the savage, base insectoids to make a show of their hatred, as they gruesomely terraformed the once beautiful Jungle planet into a horrid nest of putrefaction, a Terminid Supercolony.

Fearing that the rest of the Barrier Planets were soon to follow, the Helldivers were ordered to deactivate the Terminid Control System, hoping that this would prevent Fenrir III and the other barrier planets from meeting the same grizzly fate.

Fenrir III would be secured on May 1st, allowing its colonists to breathe a short sigh of relief as they realized what had just begun.

Second Galactic War[]

Operation Outbreak[]

Aided by the Terminid Supercolony, the bugs ran wild across the Eastern Galactic rim, invading more and more planets as they poured onto the Jin Xi Sector like the plague they are. Fenrir III would be attacked by Terminids on May 9th, its rebuilt defenses crumbling upon the tidal wave of insectoids pouncing at it. The Helldivers would manage to liberate Fenrir by May 11th, but its colonists wouldn't be able to really rebuild much, letting it fall to the Terminids again on May 16th, only for the Helldivers to dislodge the insects off the planet 8 hours later.

Then, on May 19th, Fenrir III would be attacked again, but the Helldivers managed to repel the assault without much other incident.

Operation Emancipator[]

However, Fenrir III was still in constant danger, as it stood next to the Supercolony. Amidst an operation to capture and repurpose an Automaton Petafactory on Varylia 5, Fenrir III and Angel's Venture were both attacked. On May 25th, the Helldivers had to leave Fenrir III to its own devices in order to appropriately ensure that the SEAF Training Facilities at Angel's Venture were properly secured, leading to Fenrir III's fall once more.

However, shortly after the Angel's Venture operation concluded, Fenrir III was quickly rescued by the Helldivers, leading to Fenrir III's liberation on May 27th, shortly after nearby Heeth had also been defended from the Terminids.

Operation Enduring Peace[]

With Fenrir III liberated, Super Earth High Command spied an opportunity to definitely end its issues with the Terminid Supercolony. On May 26th, 12 scientists at Moradesh were spaghettified during trials of a new superweapon: The Dark Fluid, an Illuminate technology that had been rescued from the treacherous squids after the end of the First Galactic War.

This superweapon would appear to be the only remaining option to effectively deal with the Terminid Supercolony, as many scientists had observed that the Terminids were already too deep inside Meridia's crusts for orbital bombardments to be effective, even if they were to be done using nuclear munitions.

As such, Super Earth High Command issued the order for Fenrir III, Angel's Venture and Turing to be held, as these 3 planets would serve as the main path to transport all the Dark Fluid necessary to destroy Meridia.

Then, on June 1st, the green light was given, and the Helldivers deployed onto Meridia in order to drill the Dark Fluid into its surface.

Fenrir III would not see much incident during this operation. However, as the Dark Fluid began disrupting the Supercolony, its spore production increased, leading to many attacks at neighboring planets, Fenrir III among them.

Then, on June 2nd, 2184, at 15:25 SEST, Meridia would be no more, as the Dark Fluid drilled into it reached supercriticality and provoked Meridia to collapse into itself, forming a black hole that destroyed the entire Meridia system and syphoned away all Terminid interstellar spores within billions of kilometers, leading to the collapse of the Terminid offensive and letting Fenrir III's citizens breathe a sigh of relief.

Operation Glorious Xenocide[]

Following the Destruction of Meridia, Fenrir III would remain largely unharmed, as the Terminids were forced to retreat away from the Umlaut Sector. While Fenrir III would be attacked on July 24th, the ongoing operation to cull Terminids would see many Helldivers aid its defense, which helped quickly repel the infestation.

Operation Lighthouse[]

Amidst this operation, Fenrir III was attacked. On August 11th, with orders to prevent further Terminid advance, the Helldivers deployed onto Fenrir III once more, repelling the insects once again and securing the lives of its colonists once more, while still helping the cause of Liberty.

Operation Ecologic Immolation[]

Fenrir III would have enjoyed 2 months of well-deserved freedom by this point. The Terminids had been successfully contained and the Automaton front was slowly being pushed back. However, it is when Freedom's guard is at its lowest when it is the most vulnerable. And as such, Fenrir III was attacked on August 30th, amidst an operation to liberate Vernen Wells and killing Automatons for scrap metal.

With the Helldivers away at the Western Galactic Rim, Fenrir III would fall to the Terminids the following. However, once the operation concluded, the Helldivers deployed en masse on Fenrir III, liberating it by September 1st.

Operation Courageous Exodus[]

After those small bouts, Fenrir III stood strong and resilient, its colonists hardened after all the hardships endured. Even in the face of the horrid nebula that had appeared called The Gloom, the strength of Fenrir's colonists didn't wain or waver, instead hardening their resolve.

This new resolve would be put to the test when; on November 5th, after 2 months of uninterrupted tranquility, the Terminids attacked Fenrir III, aided by a spore surge coming out of the Gloom. In a mighty show of their courage and resolve, Fenrir III was defended from the Terminids, ensuring that the relocation of colonists displaced from their homes by the Gloom onto the Democracy Space Station continued unimpeded.

Operation Iron Rain[]

Following this last bout with the Terminids, not much else would occur in Fenrir III, its colonists continuing their lives without much incident. However, the Terminids, with their unbridled hatred for peace, would attack Fenrir III without provocation. While this attack was not its cause, Operation Iron Rain would be declared mere hours after the Terminid forces made planetfall, pretty much giving the Helldivers a blank cheque to eradicate any and all bugs through the usage of machine guns, as per the request of the Ministry of Defense in order to conduct research on its efficiency.

After some 30 hours of combat, the Terminids would be successfully rebuked, allowing Fenrir III's population a smooth return to its well-earned respite.

Operation Wormhole Spaghetti[]

Following the conclusion of Operation Squid Game, Astronomers reported novel anomalous phenomena in the form of fluctuations in the event horizon and electromagnetic flares in the vicinity of the Meridian Singularity. Since the exotic substance known as Dark Fluid was found on Illuminate worlds at the end of the First Galactic War and was used to collapse the planet into a black hole, High Command concluded that the recent changes to the Meridian Singularity, so shortly following the reappearance of the Illuminate, may indicate a deeper connection.

Indeed the Meridian Singularity may be no ordinary black hole, as many leading government experts have long suspected. Naturally these developments demanded further investigation. High Command thus ordered the construction of a new Center of Science on Fenrir III. Thanks to decisive Fascism-repulsion operations by the Helldivers in vicinity of Fenrir III, the construction of a new Center of Science was completed safely. Top astrophysicists from the Ministry of Science immediately convened there to closely study the Meridian Singularity and instantly the project yielded valuable insights.

The Singularity was not, as many uninformed laypeople had assumed, a typical black hole. It is, in fact, the first observed instance of a wormhole: a tunnel in spacetime connecting two disparate points in space. Much more remains to be investigated as it is likely that the wormhole was formed following the implosion of Meridia by dark matter unclear if the wormhole formed recently, or if it has existed for some time already. A connection to the recent Illuminate attacks is one of many threads being pursued.

Operation Farsight Breach[]

Following the successful effort of the Helldivers to re-liberate Fenrir III from the grasp of the   Terminids, the planet would see relative peace for the next few weeks. At last, its colonists would look forward to 2185, hoping for peace and comfort from the rigors of the galactic war. Meanwhile, the Center of Science hummed with progress, aiming to give Super Earth greater insight into just how the wretched Illuminate were able to return.

All seemed relatively bright on the Terminid front, with the Helldivers making a push toward Gatria in the beginning of January. However, on January 10, 2185, the Eastern theater would explode into massive conflict as the Terminids launched a mammoth assault on Grand Errant and Pherkad Secundus in the previously untouched Farsight Sector. Seeing the situation unfold, Super Earth High Command would immediately issue a Major Order, demanding the Helldivers to repel the colossal Terminid outbreak while holding both Polaris Prime and Fenrir.

Initially, all focus would be on the Terminid breach of the Farsight Sector, with the Helldivers repelling the Terminid assault on Grand Errant but losing the defense of Pherkad Secundus. Then, on January 11, 2185, the Terminids would launch dual assaults toward Polaris Prime and Fenrir's neighbor, Erata Prime. With the Helldivers having orders to hold Polaris at all costs, the Terminid threat at Erata was too strong to contain, and the planet fell by the next day. Then, the Terminids would once again launch 2 simultaneous assaults, with the Factory Hub at Achernar Secundus under attack at the same time the bugs at Erata launched a massive onslaught on Heeth in the Orion Sector. The Helldivers would repel the attack on Achernar, but could not contain the Terminid threat on the snowy Heeth.

All told, the defeats at Erata and Heeth left Fenrir III encircled, as it was surrounded by Hellmire from the Gloom along with the heavily reinforced Erata Prime and Heeth. Fortunately thanks to the efforts of the Helldiver Corps -- as well as a catastrophic weather event devastating terminid forces on the 18th of January, 2185 -- Heeth would be liberated, securing Fenrir's southern flank.

Then on the 26th of January, during the midst of Operation Impending Gloom, Fenrir III would suffer a major Terminid outbreak. With the Helldivers ordered to hold Fenrir, the main Helldiver fleet turned up en masse to ensure the safety of the planet. Luckily, thanks to their brilliant swift response while the DSS's Eagle Storm stopped all Terminid campaign progress, the Helldivers easily and quickly repelled this once-threatening attack, showing how liberty reduces all efforts of fascism and tyranny to ashes.

Operation Emperor's New Brood[]

Angel's Venture has been torn apart by the Meridian Singularity. This is an incalculable loss. Angel's Venture will live on in the terrible Vengeance we will claim henceforth against all foes of Freedom.

For now, it is the Terminids who volunteer to be the receivers of our wrath. The Center of Science Fenrir III is of vital importance to stopping the Meridian Singularity. The Ministry of Science’s top astrophysicists are gathered there, researching both the Singularity itself and the Dark Energy that somehow powers its movement.

All Helldivers are ordered to defend Fenrir III. The Center of Science must not be lost.

Since the planet's defense at the end of January, Fenrir would go on relatively quietly with the Center of Science continuing to shed light on the plans of the vile Illuminate. While remaining under threat from both Erata Prime and the Gloom-infested Hellmire, the rocky moon churned onward with progress, knowing that it would likely face Gloom-driven outbreaks in the near future.

Early in February, a shocking event would begin to occur within the same sector as Fenrir. The Meridian Singularity, which was the subject of most of the Center of Science's work, would somehow begin to move thanks to the Illuminate's harvesting of Dark Energy which somehow propelled the Singularity to move in the direction of Super Earth. By February 12, the Singularity reached critical momentum and by the next day crossed into the Orion Sector and passed right by Angel's Venture, demolishing the once-beautiful world and killing millions upon millions of innocent citizens. All that remains of the once free and innocent world are ashes and fractures of the planet that played a vital role during the early Military Operations before the official declaration of the Second Galactic War.

Following a 24-hour mourning period announced by the President of Super Earth and no Orders issued by High Command the next day, the Terminids wouldn't waste the opportunity to cause further crisis for a now beleaguered SEAF. In the early afternoon of February 15, the Terminids at the Gloom-surged Hellmire launched a staggering level 40 assault on Fenrir. Worst of all, this massive invasion fleet was driven by a new strain of bugs, the "Predator Strain" featuring mutated bugs powered by whatever lies within the disgusting Gloom. High Command stated that this new strain featured discolored mutants, increased bug intelligence, and different hunting patterns than usually displayed by normal Terminids. All Helldivers would be immediately ordered to the defense of Fenrir III to protect the Center of Science and halt the advance of this latest surge from The Gloom.

Luckily, the Helldivers displayed cooperative brilliance once again on the battle-hardened moon. Over 105,000 Helldivers would join the fight at the peak of Fenrir's defense, with nearly 80% of the Corps participating in the battle. With the swift and heavily manned response, the Helldivers were able to quickly take advantage in the defense just around 5 to 6 hours in despite the extremely high invasion level. From there, they wouldn't look back as they comfortably and impressively dispatched the Terminid menace roughly 35 hours in, with over 12 hours left to spare. Their work wouldn't be fully complete however, as the same Predator Strain would resurface on neighboring Erata Prime, intent on menacing Fenrir and its closest planets once more.

After the Helldiver Corps were completing their "victory lap" on Erata, the devoted Dark Energy researchers at the Science Icon Centre of Science were considered finally safe from the Predator Strain. Indeed, the enemy’s brutal attack ended up having an unexpectedly positive outcome, as the Gloom-mutated Terminid carcasses that now littered the surface of Fenrir III proved to be a plentiful E-710 source, leading to a startling discovery by the Center's astrophysicists.

They confirmed that the energy produced by E-710 -- the power source that fuels the Federation's FTL Alcubierre Drives -- matches all known properties of Dark Energy. Studying E-710, therefore, could help unlock the secrets of Dark Energy and the means by which the Illuminate are moving the Meridian Singularity. Thus in a historic collaboration between the Ministry of Expansion, the Ministry of Science and the Ministry of Defense, Super Earth High Command would launch it's first large scale expedition into the Gloom.

Operation Wild Hunt[]

On the 7th of March, 2185, the Center of Science on Fenrir III, aided by massive amounts of E-710 secured from the Gloom by the Helldivers, would achieve another major breakthrough discovery.

It has been understood for some time that Illuminate accumulation of Dark Energy directly correlates to the speed at which the Singularity moves. But the mechanism has remained a mystery. Now, analysis of gravitational waves has revealed that the Illuminate are sending accumulated Dark Energy directly into the Singularity itself. High Command has therefore ordered the establishment of a (official) blockade surrounding the Meridian Singularity.

Though Illuminate interstellar ships remain undetectable, and their means of Dark Energy transport remains unknown, High Command is nevertheless highly confident that a conventional military blockade is the most effective option that has been thought of at the time. Unfortunately following days of diligent resource collection and repurposing of enemy combatants, scrap metal collection efforts were below target, resulting in partial barrier of the Meridian Singularity that was porous, but still moderately effective.

This blockade made a notable difference with Dark Energy accumulation noticeable slowing, however Illuminate ships still remain undetectable in interstellar space. To create an impermeable barrier, the SEAF Navy would need either significantly more resources or advancement in Illuminate ship detection technology.

Operation Black Hole Sun[]

"It's a giant rocket that we put close enough to the Singularity to be swept up in its rotation, but not so close that it falls in, and then blasts back out using tons and tons of E-710, thereby stealing some of the Singularity's energy. Hail Super Earth."
~ Penrose Energy Siphon, Center of Science -- Fenrir III

With Moradesh and Angel's Venture lying in ruins the Singularity still pushing towards the heart of the Federation, the time for action was at hand. If nothing was done, then Ivis would be the next planet destroyed, followed by Nublaria I, then Pilen V and even Super Earth should the current path continue.

The Center of Science, after significant research on Illuminate technology and E-710, would propose a multi-stage plan to counteract the movement of the Meridian Singularity. The completion of a partial blockade of the Singularity meant that stage I was already complete.

Stage II meanwhile involved the construction of the Penrose Energy Siphon: a means by which to effect a large one-time reduction in Dark Energy Accumulation. The process is highly scientific and sophisticated. Helpfully, a Helldiver-friendly explanation has been provided by the Center of Science (see above).

The device will be constructed piecewise in the orbit of several planets. The Helldivers must hold each of these planets until construction is complete. Following construction, in a subsequent order, the Helldivers will assist in gathering the massive amounts of E-710 required to power the device.
