Gameplay Tips[ | ]
- When using the weapon after being holstered, there is a one-second delay for the fuel to come to the nozzle and ignite. Plan and prefire ahead if you must suddenly use this weapon.
- Flamethrower damage is essentially split into two components, instant damage on hit and the burning damage over time. Against stronger targets, its more effective to let the latter take its course rather than focused fire. Either sweep the flames across enemy formations or switch to other weapons to supplement additional damage.
- The burn damage lasts for 3 seconds without taking further fire damage.
- Flamethrowers can also set the ground on fire for quite some time, which can be a very effective tactic at chokepoints. While the weapon cannot destroy bug holes, it can at least turn them into a death trap for most spawning bugs until it is closed by other means.
- As a result, it is not recommended for you to walk forwards with your flamethrower as you will simply ignite yourself in your own flames on the ground. Backpedal when using the flamethrower to minimize chances of setting yourself aflame.
- Extreme caution is advised near teammates, even moreso than usual, as burning damage is extremely dangerous to fellow Helldivers.
- Flamethrowers are extremely effective at handling almost any Terminid, though Bile Titans are far too risky to engage and Shriekers will also stay out of range most of the time.
- If you must engage a Bile Titan with this weapon, either fire at them from an elevated position where you can set fire to their body, or get under them and do your best to not get stomped by them while cooking them underneath. The latter is easier to pull off with teammates and sentries that can both stagger and distract the titan while you're doing this.
- Against Automatons, its fairly effective, if risky, against basic enemies up to Devastators (though the shield of Heavy Devastors blocks fire), but drops off sharply against anything heavier, with units like tanks being almost completely immune to fire and the explosion on death likely to kill any Helldiver crazy enough to engage them at flamethrower range.
