“ | Ehhh, I've done a little reading up on the Dark Fluid and it's actually pretty simple. Exotic matter with negative mass amplifies the force of gravity varies with local energy density... heh... etc, etc. I won't bore you with the rest of the details. I'm sure you get it. | „ |

Dark Fluid is a form of synthesized exotic matter (taking the form of a dark-colored substance) liberated from the Illuminate following the First Galactic War. This mysterious fluid has some physics-defying properties, the most notable of which is creating unstable gravitational singularities that turn into miniature black holes.
History[]
Due to the sudden and unexpected rapid Terminid infestation on the planet of Meridia after the deployment of the Terminid Control System facilities, the
Super Earth government was forced to contain the situation by using vast amounts of Dark Fluid created on the planet of Moradesh, being pumped into Meridia's crust. The end-result after a grueling conflict was a planet-sized black hole forming where Meridia used to be, plunging the Terminids and their spores into an inescapable gravity well.
Besides creating black holes, there are currently no other known side-effects of deploying Dark Fluid. Unfortunately, it's also a feat that is unlikely to be repeated in the near future, as the Federation's reserves of captured Dark Fluid from the First Galactic War have been expended.
Following the return of the Illuminate to the Milky Way galaxy, however, several
Helldivers have taken note of 'barrels' found around the Illuminate's landing sites, which when shot create a purple explosion -- with the contents likely being more Dark Fluid. Should the Federation ever need Dark Fluid weapons again, the
Ministry of Science will need to make a concerted effort to collect these barrels.
Illuminate Cloaking Technology[]
For the longest time the interstellar ships of the Illuminate were undetectable by the Super Earth Navy. However, following the successful defense of Super Earth against the invading "Great Host", the
Ministry of Science would reverse-engineer Illuminate wreckage in order to defeat their cloaking mechanisms. These efforts proved fruitful, as the
Ministry of Science was able to confirm that the enemy’s cloaking mechanisms used Dark Fluid to bend light around their smaller spacecrafts.
By identifying the resulting gravitational distortions, military analysts were able to identify Illuminate forces hiding on multiple planets in several outlying systems, including previous combat zones already ravaged by the Illuminate; setting the stage for Operation Deep Cleaning.
Trivia[]
- The name of the substance may reference Dark matter, the hypothetical form of matter holding galaxies together, and Dark energy, the mysterious form of energy responsible for the expansion of the universe.
