Currencymeme

Various currencies are used in Helldivers 2 to purchase in-game items.

All currencies can be earned through regular gameplay. Super Credits used to purchase access to Warbonds or armor sets in the Super Store may also be purchased with real-world funds.

All currencies have a cap beyond which further currency will not be earned. The player may receive reminders through the Ship TV system or HUD urging them to spend such currency.

Samples[ | ]

Samples are a currency used in Helldivers 2 to permanently upgrade your ship by acquiring Ship modules. Three types of samples exist: Common Samples, Rare Samples, and Super Samples (or Super Uranium).

Unlike other currencies, all types are directly carried by the Helldiver that picked them up. They are dropped on the ground if the carrier dies, or chooses to drop them using the Drop Menu. They will need to be picked up again as needed and carried all the way into the extraction vehicle to be gained at the end of the mission. Dropped samples can be picked up by any squadmate, being added to their own container.

To reduce risk, it may be preferable to spread the pickups between players in the group. Samples can also be dropped at the Extraction Zone should the squad cross it before completing the mission.

The total amount of samples that can be found and the amount currently carried in the mission is displayed on the HUD depending on settings (by default, the counter will only display briefly whenever a sample is picked up). The amount of samples generated per mission depends on difficulty and mission type (short missions like Eradicate typically will have far less and possibly not even of every type that should be available, if any at all).

As with the other currencies, all Helldivers will gain all samples earned at the end of the mission, regardless of who was carrying them into the extraction vehicle. Successful extraction of samples is the only way to obtain them.

Common Samples CommonSampleHD are found on any difficulty. The maximum amount of common samples the player can hold is 500.

  • Main and Side Objectives
  • Terminid Nests or Automaton Outposts

In the area of operations, they look like plant-like bulbs on a stalk, small cases (prepared earlier by research teams), small worms in Terminid-controlled planets, or like small machinery in Automaton-controlled planets.

Rare Samples RareSampleHD are found on Challenging Difficulty and higher. The maximum amount of rare samples the player can hold is 250. They can be acquired at:

  • Main and Side Objectives
  • Terminid Nests or Automaton Outposts

Rare samples take the form of several crystallized stones and flowers. They may appear in locked areas such as secured bunkers, shipping containers, or ejection pods.

Super Samples SuperSampleHD, which look like liquid metal bulbs defying gravity, are found on Extreme Mission Difficulty and higher. The maximum amount of Super Samples the player can hold is 100.

They can only at be found at a very distinct rock formation. The number of super samples found depends of the current difficulty and can vary slightly.

  • Difficulty 6 [Extreme] 2-3 super samples
  • Difficulty 7 [Suicide] 3-4 super samples
  • Difficulty 8 [Impossible] 5 super samples
  • Difficulty 9 [Helldive] 6 super samples

This rock has a bile-infused variation that has a chance to have the Super Samples. There is a chance to have multiple Super Sample rocks in a mission, typically 2, very rarely 3. The samples will only ever be at one of these locations, never split between them, therefore if you find one of these rocks but it has no samples then there's another one somewhere on the map that holds them.
