“ | A rocky, lonely moon with extremely valuable mineral deposits underneath the surface. | „ |
~ Official Description |
Claorell is one of the six planets that reside in the Tanis Sector.
Topography[ | ]
Similar to Maia and Curia, old, rocky moon. Its topography is composed of a cratered, hilly landscape with occasional cliff formations. It is entirely grayscale, possessing little to no color other than non-natural structures. Its terrain, while hilly, is quite open, making it relatively easy to traverse. This also provides excellent long-distance visibility.
Claorell is also home to extremely valuable mineral deposits underneath it's surface, which has attracted the attention of the Automaton's who've set up deep-mantle mining operations on the planet, creating a deep-mantle mining complex which has polluted the moons already thin atmosphere.
History[ | ]
Second Galactic War[ | ]
Operation Titanium Belt[ | ]
Claorell was, up until September 2184, a peaceful lunar colony of Super Earth that relied on the export of many minerals valuable to the main industrial sectors of Super Earth. However, the Automatons, boundless in their greed, would not spare Claorell from the horrors of war in their quest to capture Imber's titanium deposits. On September 11th, after a couple tactical miscalculations by the Helldivers gave the Automatons control of Gaellivare and Vog-Sojoth, the Automatons would make one final push towards Imber by sending a dual assault from the two previously mentioned planets, with Claorell being the second planet to be assaulted.
The Helldivers would be forced to leave Claorell to its own devices, as the Colonial Overseer scrambled to mount a defense with the weapons the planet already had and with the few Helldivers that did turn up for support. During the first 16 hours of the defense, the situation looked lost. But a spark of hope would glimmer in the horizon as the Helldivers, in a glorious display of democratic fervour, would crush the attack at Imber after just 14 hours then began to immediately redeploy onto Claorell, beginning to turn the situation around, with less that 4 hours remaining before the planet's defenses caved in.
Claorell would be spared and the order would be won, successfully prebventing the Automatons from acquiring Imber's titanium deposits.
Operation Liberty Tide[ | ]
For a week, Claorell's colonists would be able to rest and recover, while the Helldivers were diverted back towards Tarsh and Mastia in order to secure important polystyrine deposits, which allowed for the fleetwide deployment of Orbital Napalm Barrages. However, shortly after, the Helldivers would be forced to draw a huge chunk of their available forces towards the Terminid front, due to difficulties faced at Pandion-XXIV and Gatria. As such, the Automatons at neighbouring Vog-Sojoth found an opportunity to easily cut off Helldiver access to their garrison and, on September 18th, sent dual attacks onto both Clasa and Claorell.
Due to the logistical struggles related to the unusually resilient Terminid hives at Pandion, both Clasa and Claorell were overwhelmed by the incoming Automaton forces, as there weren't enough Helldivers to help repel them. Claorell would fall but, surprisingly, the bots would not occupy it, instead opting to concentrate their forces at Clasa in order to expand further into the Tanis Sector.
As such, the Helldivers spotted a unique opportunity to take back Claorell, seeing as it was left underdefended. It would be reliberated on September 22nd, shortly before the liberation of Trandor allowed for more manpower to be available.
However, this would not be the last time Claorell would see action, as the Automatons immediately launched an attack onto Claorell during the night of September 23rd. This attack would prove successful, as the Helldivers would be unable to provide support due to a newly issued major order.
Operation Leap Forward[ | ]
During Operation Leap Forward, the Helldivers had to concentrate almost exclusively on the liberation of Gaellivare. This meant that the fall of Claorell was a sacrifice that had to be undertaken for the greater good. With Imber having fallen days prior, Claorell's defense collapsed and, subsequently, became completely unable to be liberated, as its supply lines all led to Automaton-controlled planets.
Operation Freedom's Forge[ | ]
For the past several weeks Development of the Democracy Space Station has proceeded on-schedule. However the next step to construct the powerful battle station is the establishment of the Deep Mantle Forge Complex. This Deep Mantle Forge will use extreme heat and pressure near a planet's core to create an extremely strong and ductile chronium-cobalt-nickel alloy. The powerful alloy will be required to withstand the acceleration of the immense DSS to warp speeds.
Super Earth was able to identify -- based on atmospheric readings -- that the Automatons were already engaged in deep-mantle mining operations on the moon of Claorell. Thus liberating their mining tunnels and repurposing their facilities became top priority, as it would greatly accelerate the construction of the Deep Mantle Forge. Further, it would deny the Automatons their own access to the high-cost mine network, and reveal insight into their larger intentions. Thus the Helldivers are directed to liberate Claorell and its deep-mantle mining complex from the Automatons.
After 2 days of battling, Imber's defenses collapsed, allowing for its swift liberation, whichthen allowed the Helldivers to move onto Claorell with haste. With merely hours to spare, the Helldivers spared no bullet in liberating the barren moon, managing to liberate it on October 7th, mere hours before the Automatons managed to bring reinforcements onto the planet and securing the tunnel system for Super Earth's miners to build the Deep Mantle Forge Complex, which will allow for the creation of a brand new alloy that will permit the DSS to withstand FTL Warp Jumps.
However, it was also discovered that the Automatons were also developing new alloys in these tunnels in order to create new types of armor plating. More on this development is being investigated by the Ministry of Intelligence.
Operation Bulwark of Democracy[ | ]
The colonists at Claorell would have to come back right into the heat of the battle. Even after its peaceful and righteous liberation, the Automatons refused to concede and, as such, mounted an offensive with the intent of retaking Claorell and its deep space mining complexes. Fittingly, Super Earth High Command ordered for Claorell to be defended, as well as for the Helldivers to hold the line against the Automaton menace while the Deep Space Forge Complex was under construction.
On October 8th, the already tried and tested colonists of Claorell had to take on the role of miners and frontline soldiers, fighting shoulder to shoulder with both Colonial Defense soldiers and Helldivers alike, hurling super-dynamite at the mechanized Hulks and impaling the evil Devastators with their shovels.
By October 9th, Claorell had been defended against the Automatons, allowing the colonists to take a break and resume their democratic work while the Helldivers moved on to defend other planets from the robotic menace.
In the early hours of October 10th, Claorell was attacked again. However, once more, the Helldivers would mobilize en masse in order to defend what rightfully belonged to the citizens of Super Earth. After an entire day defending, the Helldivers would successfully repel the second attack onto Claorell with minimal casualties, while also dealing a heavy blow to the robotic offenders.
