The Berserker is an Automaton unit specialized in melee combat. Often found in packs, these bloodthirsty warriors are equipped with meat saws in both arms designed to obliterate their target.
Tactics[]
- Unlike devastators, Berserkers only have light armor all-around. Any weapon is capable of damaging them, although their torso armor still reduces light-penetration damage.
- Shots to their head and abdomen are most effective.
- Berserkers can be recognized by their high-pitched maniacal laughter while charging at
Helldivers.
- Berserkers are reliant on melee attacks and are slower than other Automatons. However, their large numbers can prove to be difficult to fight. Shotguns, grenades, or medium armor-penetrating weapons such as the AR-23P Liberator Penetrator and MG-43 Machine Gun are effective against them.
- Maintain distance to avoid attacks from its "meat saws" as they can incapacitate a helldiver in seconds.
- Berserkers tend to pick up speed once they start getting close to their targets. Do not let them get close.
- Weapons that can stagger enemies such as the SG-8 Punisher, SG-8S Slugger, or JAR-5 Dominator are effective at temporarily stalling a Berserker's advance.
- A well-placed shot to the head or preferably the more exposed spinal column from the R-36 Eruptor can one-shot a Berserker.
- If being chased by a huge group, an effective way to deal with them is to clump them up and then toss a stun grenade near their location, which leaves them utterly vulnerable to retaliation.
- Using an Orbital EMS Strike and tossing it into their pathway is also an alternative tactic. The lingering field will ensure that any other Berserkers who attempt to pass through are stunned and rendered vulnerable.
- Berserkers can still function without their blades chasing after helldivers and trying to kick at or stomp on them in a futile attempt of self preservation
- Despite their light armor, Berserkers can soak up quite a few bullets before dying, it is recommended to shoot the head or stomach to deal maximum damage.
Trivia[]
- Berserkers derive their name from an enemy from the first game, who served a similar role of relentlessly pursuing and attacking Helldivers with melee.
- Visuals-wise, the Berserker resembles the Khornate Berserkers from Warhammer 40,000, most notably their usage of chainsaw-based weaponry and preference for using spikes and skulls for decorations.
- Berserkers appear to be made from destroyed Devastator frames, as referenced by the decayed coloration and ruined qualities of their body, such as the mangled chestplate, cracked upper-torso, and exposed wiring that emulates human entrails, a complete contrast to the Automaton's efficient and clean robotic designs.
