~ Factory Hub description |
Achernar Secundus is one of the four planets that reside within the Borgus Sector. It is also the location of a major Factory Hub operated by Admiral Defense (AM), a defense company with a proven history of constructing top-of-the-line armaments for
S.E.A.F. line units, with the factory's construction marking their expansion into providing
Helldiver weaponry. Production at the Complex focuses mainly on the construction of Fast Recon Vehicles (FRVs).
On December 19th, Achernar Secundus became the first planet ever to be attacked by 2 different factions, as the Illuminate sent an invasion force onto the planet.
Topography[]
Similar to Oshaune and Acamar IV.
After the construction of AM Defense's Factory hub, Achernar Secundus would become the home of three Mega Cities, listed below. Mega City tiers have no effect on level generation and only determine the city's health pool in the galactic war.
- Currency (Tier 2 - Town)
- Ol' Oldham (Tier 3 - City)
- New Newtonville (Tier 3 - City)
History[]
Second Galactic War[]
Operation Ring of Freedom[]
Achernar was, like many other planets of its type, a peaceful planet colony off the Eastern Galactic Fringe that was settled by Super Earth at some point after the First Galactic War. Its colonists, for the most part, dedicated themselves to agriculture and fishing while inhabiting its green pastures.
However, the Terminids would soon throw their plans off schedule when, on October 13th, pretty much immediately after capturing Gar Haren, they invaded Achernar Secundus, as they raced to flank the
S.E.A.F.'s hardened defense at through Achird III in order to reach Turing, the home of the newly built Xenoentomology Center. However, the bugs didn't count with the resilience of
Super Earth's colonists. For 12 hours, they valiantly held the lines side by side with their brethren of the Colonial Defense Forces and a contingent of Helldivers that had decided to support the ongoing defense. However, as the hours passed, the situation looked bleaker and the casualties began to mount.
16 hours into the assault, the situation looked desperate. Civilians were being evacuated in disarray while the S.E.A.F. was preparing to evacuate the planet. All hope seemed lost until, on October 14th, at 3:45 SEST, Darius II was liberated and soon, an additional 30,000 Super Destroyers showed up en masse to relief the besieged defense of Achernar Secundus.
By 13:00 SEST, the last remaining Terminids of the invading force had been repelled and Achernar was successfully defended, cleansing the Terminids off the Borgus Sector.
Operation Bughammer[]
On the 11th of December, 2184, the Ministry of Defense officially awarded a multitrillion-Supercredit contract to Admiral (AM) Defense to expand production of high-quality military equipment for the Helldivers. It should be noted that AM Defense has a proven history of constructing top-of-the-line armaments for SEAF line units, and their expansion to providing Helldiver weaponry marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the Defense-Marketplace Partnership.
To begin this new chapter, AM Defense began construction of a massive, multi-complex Factory Hub on Achernar Secundus, which would create millions of exciting labor opportunities for Super Earth citizens. However, temperature readings shows an increase of
Terminid activity in the Jin Xi and Sten Sectors, seemingly in response to this momentous project. Indeed, this lead credence to the theory proposed by many Terminid experts that the alien race may instinctively sense and attack areas with heavy Democratic activity. Never the less, the
Helldivers were ordered to ensure the construction of the AM Defense Factory Hub continued unabated, in order to protect the investments of the Ministry of Defence's security partners.
However Operation Bughammer was swiftly cancelled following the Illuminate's return to the galaxy and the invasion of Calypso, with the majority of
Helldiver and
S.E.A.F. forces being redirected to the galactic south to meet this new threat head on. Fortunately for the galaxy, they were successful and the Admiral Defense (AM) Factory Hub didn't need their protection after all, with construction being completed on the 17th of December. Production of Fast Recon Vehicles (FRVs) for all Helldiver battlespaces was on schedule to begin within the following days and soon become available just in time to take part in the defense of Genesis Prime against another
Illuminate incursion.
Return of the
Illuminate[]
Achernar Secundus, being left completely unattended due to the ongoing crisis in the southern sectors, would quickly be put under siege, as the Terminids advanced onto Gatria and then Gar Haren. Things were looking pretty grim as the
S.E.A.F. Garrison began to build up its defenses in preparation for a Terminid attack. However, the threat upon them would come from the last side anyone could have prepared them for.
On December 19th, shortly after the Illuminate raid at Gemma, an
Illuminate raiding party turned up on the planet's surface and began to attack the more urbanized settlements of the planet, aiming to plunder the resources and personnel that AM Defense had brought in order to build the multi-complex factory hub.
Fearing the worst, the Helldivers immediately deployed onto Achernar, in hopes that a victory over the
Illuminate would not only prevent interruptions to AM Defense's vehicle production but also deter future Terminid incursions. This raid would only end in disaster for the Illuminate, as the Helldivers managed to succesfully repel the raid in less than 6 hours.
Operation Farsight Breach[]
Since its defense against the xenophobic Illuminate threat in December, Achernar went untouched into the beginning of 2185. The Factory Hub churned forward with progress, with FRVs being released to the entire
Helldiver Corps in short order immediately after the swiftly repelled squid raid. Through the first week or so of January 2185, Achernar went on undisturbed, its colonists returning to work as life continued in earnest.
The Terminids, their plague ever resilient, wouldn't waste the opportunity to spread their infestation elsewhere. On January 10, 2185, the bugs began a massive onslaught in the previously untouched Farsight Sector, making planetfall on Grand Errant and Pherkad Secundus. High Command immediately issued a Major Order, with readings from the Xenoentomology Center on Turing indicating that a significant outbreak of spores from The Gloom was fueling a massive offensive by the bugs. All
Helldivers were ordered to stem the Terminid incursions as best as possible, with the target set to at least 5 successful defense campaigns.
The Helldivers fought tooth and nail across multiple sectors, attempting to hold back the
Terminids to the absolute best of their ability. Initially, the Helldivers would triumph at Grand Errant and Polaris Prime, but could not hold back the larger bug outbreaks at Erata Prime or Pherkad Secundus. On January 12, the bugs continued to spread their infestation elsewhere, attacking the Factory Hub on Achernar Secundus in tandem with a larger outbreak on Heeth.
Luckily, the assault on Achernar was weaker than that of Heeth's campaign, and the Helldivers immediately recognized the threat posed to the Factory Hub and, as such, deployed en masse to Achernar's defense, resigning Heeth to its relatively meager devices. The attack on Achernar wound up being comfortably repelled, with the Helldivers then turning back to Heeth to try to salvage the bleak situation there.
Operation Wild Hunt & Operation Black Hole Sun[]
Into March 2185, Achernar and the rest of the Borgus Sector went on quietly as the main horrors of the war in that span avoided their innocent worlds. Many contrasting emotions ran through the S.E.A.F., their triumphs during their first foray into The Gloom on Fori Prime giving them a significant boost while the solemness and despondency from the destruction of Angel's Venture and what appeared to be the impending doom of Moradesh threatened to overshadow their fantastic military and scientific advancements through their first Gloom expedition.
The Borgus Sector would see its brief period of peace end early in March. On March 7, in the midst of a bruising Automaton offensive across numerous planets in the past week, the bugs sent a vicious 18 million broods toward Darius II and were ultimately successful in their capture of the planet. Then, on March 13, Achird III, the planet that stood tall following the miraculous defense of the planet back in October, faced another grueling assault in tandem with an even larger Automaton assault on Wasat. Both planets fell, with the enemies of
Super Earth gaining ground and the bugs gaining a larger foothold in the Borgus Sector.
In the afternoon of March 14th, as the Helldivers attempted a counter-attack on Achird III to re-liberate the planet, a quiet yet significant increase in
Terminids was reported on planet Gar Haren with the resistance rate jumping from 0.5% to 1.5%. Minutes after this development, the Terminids of Gar Haren began a massive outbreak on Achernar in tandem with a larger assault on Fenrir III. With a massive plan underway to construct an energy siphon by which to lower Meridia's Dark Energy sources, High Command could not tolerate two of the 4 planets central to the project coming under attack. A new Order was issued for the Helldivers to hold Fenrir, Achernar, Heeth, and Ursica XI to enable construction of the siphon.
Compounding this issue was the fact that Achernar Secundus was also home of the AM Defense Factory Hub producing FRV's. Naturally, the Terminid attacks caused production disruptions, which in turn resulted in fuel rations for FRVs until the attack could be repelled. Unfortunately, this would not come to pass as the majority of
Helldivers were focused on the defense and subsequent liberation of Fenrir III.
On the 15th of March at roughly 5:31 PM, Achernar Secundus would fall to the Terminids. As a result, the AM Defense Factory Hub was evacuated, with fuel across the
S.E.A.F. vehicle fleet being reduced by 90% (effecting not only Fast Recon Vehicles but also EXO-45 Patriot and EXO-49 Emancipator Exosuits) until the planet could be reclaimed or until fuel can be sourced elsewhere.
Following the full reclamation of Fenrir III, the Helldiver Corps would redouble their efforts on Achernar Secundus. The planet would be liberated from the Fascist bugs during the afternoon (3:38pm SEST) of the 17th of March - two days later - allowing the AM factory workers to return to work at the factory complex.
Operation Omens Undone[]
During this operation, Achernar was attacked by the Illuminate on April 26th, thus being the first instance during the war where more than 3 factions were present in a single sector. With this raid, it was suspected that the Illuminate wished to strike one of greatest factories in the
Federation.
Unfortunately, the planet only received some skeletal Helldiver assistance, as most of the forces were deployed to the then-infested Turing, which was an objective for this Major Order. The
Illuminate retreated in the morning of April 27th, causing untold devastation in the Factory Hub on its surface, leading to shortages in FRV production and massive delays between call-ins for Helldiver missions.
Shortly past midnight on April 28th, Achenar was besieged once more, this time by the Terminids from the nearby Darius System. Due to the same issues as during the
Illuminate raid, control of the planet was lost after 24 hours, and FRV shortages continued through the rest of the Major Order.
Operation Damage Control[]
With the successful activation of the Repulsive Gravity Field Generator on Pilen V, the Illuminate threat was temporarily halted, together with the
Meridian Black Hole. With this victory, a new Major Order was called by High Command to re-take planetary systems with major sites of interest. Achernar being one of them, the
Helldivers quickly assembled in the planet's orbit and began the slow and steady liberation of the world. The planet was confirmed clear of the
Terminid infestation in the early hours of May 2nd; the Factory Hub was confirmed unscathed and it instantly began its operations anew.
Operation Ashes of Remembrance[]
Even as the last of the Illuminate Great Host retreated from
Super Earth on the 30th of May, reconstruction efforts on humanity's homeworld began almost immediately. These efforts would continue into July when on the 8th, when the
Ministry of Prosperity declared that Remembrance would be the first of our fallen Mega Cities to be rebuilt. Though destroyed almost completely early into the
Illuminate invasion, it would serve as a new monument to humanity's indomitable spirit.
Of course in order to fund the greater fortification, greater security, and greater opportunities that this noble endeavor would no doubt bring, the final balance of war restitution owed by the Illuminate, and by their formally-recognized
Terminids abettors would have to be collected. As such, High Command would designate several worlds that would need to be reclaimed in order to seize the required assets, although Achernar Secundus would not be amongst them.
However High Command soon realized that the acquisition of materials was progressing at an extremely slow pace. High Command would then negotiate a deal with AM Defense to repurpose steel and concrete reserves (previously allocated to colony development) present on Achenar for rebuilding efforts.
However minutes after this announcement on July 11th, the surge in transportation activity precipitated a Terminid attack. If the planet was lost, the resources would be lost as well, and so the
Helldivers, having just liberated the nearby planet of Veld, would answer the planets call for aid. Within minutes a fleet of Super Destroyers arrived to defend the world, with the
Democracy Space Station soon arriving in support. The planetary defense campaign went well, with the successful defense of the city of Currency by the
Helldivers proving key in the planet's defense -- increasing it from 73% to 100% instantly.
Not only did this save thousands of lives and several hours of sustained combat by S.E.A.F. but also reduced the operational requirements of the major order by 50% (from 5,000,000 Operations to 2,500,000).
